Annual medical check / health MOT went well this morning, BP didn’t go through the roof, which I was very pleased about. Hope the blood tests come back as satisfactory. Now we have our dental check ups this afternoon. Hopefully nothing should need doing, must remember to ask about the air polishing thing. Didn’t have those in my day, just pumice and a rotating brush!
It has barely stopped raining all morning, I’ve put my new fritillaries outside to get accustomed to the damp, but they’re not getting planted today. Sad for anyone hoping to enjoy a half term break. I suppose at least it’s a bit warmer than it’s been.
I’ve just checked the theatre schedule in Plymouth, there are a few ballets coming up, but already very much booked up. One that I did think looked interesting only has performances in the evening. I couldn’t rely on the trains in the evenings (or on Sundays!) and I don’t like driving at night now. My new distance glasses are a big help in compensating for the developing cataract in one eye, but it’s been getting steadily worse over the last couple of years. Not bad enough to justify getting it fixed yet.

The new mattress has arrived. I need a step ladder now! Let's see if OH sleeps any better.
I'd hoped to be able to get into the greenhouse, but by the time we put the new bedding on, the temperature had dropped.
Meeting my cousins for lunch tomorrow, so that's another day gone (but worth it!)
Glad your MOT went well @Ergates

Good afternoon all. I just came home from walk, and will finally have few peaceful moments for myself. I had hectic last few days, plus it's still bitterly cold. Yesterday I received urgent letter from Revenue and Customs office to come today in their office because apparently I didn't pay any tax in 2023. I lost few hours sorting my papers, then hour there just to find out that they sent latter to wrong person which doesn't have any connection, and even similar name to my. One more stupidity is that we don't calculate tax ourselves, Revenue office make it automatically. Tomorrow is shopping day, and day after must attend on funeral. My mum's aunt passed away yesterday. All in all, I deserve hot cup of tea, and maybe something stronger. Didn't read back, so hope you all had a nice time.

Afternoon all, I've had a rather busy but productive day. Picked up meds from surgery after they'd phoned to let me know they were ready (very impressed), got the paper for OH, then drove to Dunelm in Swindon to pick up the three pairs of curtains for the guest bedroom. DIL agreed with me that the grey ones didn't suit the room so I showed her some I'd seen online in Butterscotch (burnt orange). Swindon was the only outlet that had the three in the right size, bit of a trip and the motorway was quite busy but pleased with my purchase.
OH has also cheerfully offered to put up the new ones as soon as I like, much to my surprise (he only put the grey ones up a few days ago!

I did enjoy a few shafts of sunshine this morning and saw a Red Kite at Swindon which is always a thrill. My late brother used to volunteer at one of the Red kite centres in Wales when he first moved there.

Glad your MOT went well @Ergates.

That's a journey and a half @Liriodendron, what will you do if the plumber doesn't turn up at the cottage?

@Penny_Forthem, At least you've got the option of returning the new mattress if you don't sleep very well on it. I love ours, with a memory foam upper layer which supports my back beautifully, although OH would prefer a firmer one.

          Oh good, tea's just arrived!

No leaping off the top of the wardrobe shouting 'Geronimo'!
@Ergates, pleased to read you passed your MOT.
@Ante1 what a mix up with your taxes. I bet you got a nasty fright until you realised it was not you! So very sorry to hear about your Mum's aunt. Thoughts go out to you and the family. x
@lizzie27, lovely to hear about the red kite. I have a friend in Leeds who sees them regularly. They are gradually spreading throughout the UK. Glad you found some curtains you are pleased with.

That must have been stressful about the tax, @Ante. Glad it was sorted out and it wasn't you. Was your Mum's aunt old? I hope the funeral goes as well as a sad event can.

I'm pleased that you found the curtains that you wanted @lizzie27 .

I have at last done some gardening. It wasn't as sunny as the forecast said. I pruned 2 roses and carried on tidying the long border then mulching it.

It was such a relief, even I known that it was all in order. @Busy-Lizzie, mum's aunt almost reached 100.

Fortunately, @lizzie27 , I have plenty of jobs lined up. I now know the plumber won't turn up when I'm at the cottage, which saves me the frustration of waiting for him! He doesn't have the tanks which he's supposed to be fitting, some problem in the supply line, I think.

Now what have I forgotten to do? Everything needs to be ready tonight, because we're leaving at 6.30 am for the station half an hour's drive away, and I'm not a morning person...

Safe journey @Liriodendron. A very good morning one and all. I feel so sorry for the people who live in Godstone. It must have been extremely scary when those sink holes appeared. I do hope none of our GC friends is affected.
