It is an astonishing claim. Paving the way for a regime change (the US has a lot of form in this regard). The US and Russia as allies is a dangerous prospect. Add China in to that mix (which all three might see as judicious) and Europe starts to look in a pretty precarious position. If Ukraine goes down, there will be nothing to stop Putin going further into Eastern Europe, China appropriating Taiwan, and the US claiming Greenland and possibly Canada. Who could challenge such a triangle of power and military might?
Can I book a seat in your time machine please. I trip back 40 years would allow me to warn my younger self "don't bother; this is as good as it gets."
A couple more stories which make you wonder even more about the legal system. Asylum seeker declared a child by UK judges... despite being 23 with a receding hairline and thick facial hair | Daily Mail Online Jailing an asylum seeker, 39, who sexually assaulted a teenager after driving around looking for vulnerable drunk women could breach his human rights, court hears | Daily Mail Online
I feel lucky to have lived the majority of my time before all this stuff kicked off and reasonable expectations (like stable employment, affordable homes, and so on) became obsolete for many.
Now I remember that it was this type of balanced even handed reporting that persuaded me not to bother with the Daily Mail. It even drove my mother to buy the Sun for more balanced news.
If, and I repeat IF, the reports are factual I couldn't care less where they come from. Sadly, I can believe them after reading about somebody claiming they can't be deported because their husband doesn't like the food or hot weather where the deportee would be sent. That wasn't in the DM.
Apparently JD Vance has warned Zelensky not to bad-mouth Trump. The cheek of it, after Trump’s verbal attacks on Zelensky recently.
Just my thoughts at the moment, Trump switches sides from one minute to the next, we all know that. He is cosying up to Putin right now so he can negotiate from the point of view of a friend, it would never surprise me in the coming months if he turns on Putin when he gets what he wants. He is a realist and a crafty one, the war was, and is, going nowhere we all pile money into Ukraine and it achieves nothing in three years, we all know it will have to be a compromise in the end, if it goes on longer Ukraine will just lose even more territory and lives. The only alternative is for us to put troops in, if Europe wants to go there we are in deep trouble. Starmer is out on a limb promising British troops as a peace keeping force, maybe he knows Putin would never accept that and just wants to look good. Yes Trump is out for himself, that's why you never know which way he is going to jump from one minute to the next. There is an old saying something like, you keep your friends close, but you keep your enemies even closer.
I think people are over egging the intelligence of the guy and it's more likely that it's simply putin has something on him. It was being investigated before the republicans put a stop to it, just how he made money last time he was president and they found trails of cash from russian, China and the middle east. It was also touted that he had sold state secrets with it widely being reported in the mainstream media that he had mentioned, in conversation, sensitive information about the nuclear submarines capabilities. Even if the above is untrue and lefty misinformation, do we really believe that it would be hard for state sponsored espionage to find something to use.
I wouldn't go up any stairs either. And I certainly wouldn't walk across to an upper storey window to take in the view. Starmer is just and idiot trying to look important on the 'World Stage' and failing miserable. Trump is dangerous because we never know what he will say next, or how seriously his spouting will be taken.
Next time you feel like having a grumble about the NHS, think about the alternative, possibly coming to a hospital near you in the not too distant future… https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/20/health/video/texas-doctor-surgery-insurance-call-digvid
I would say Putin is way more strategically-minded than Trump, and also more ruthless. A dangerous combo. The war in Ukraine may be brought to a close soon, but its influence will have a long tail, IMV. Dictators and the super-wealthy (overlapping groups) will be very encouraged by the lack of opposition to doing whatever they want in the pursuit of money and power. Democratic constitutions are easily circumvented when you have big money behind you.
