Henbane

Anyone have any experience growing henbane?

And what's the best time of year for growing from seed.

I just looked it up.
It appears to grow wild in certain places I would assume you just sow in spring maybe in containers to plant out when large enough.

Be interested as to why you want to grow it.

 

I am interested in all the dark side of gardening. Like most of the nightshades.

They seem to interest me the most.

I have grown deadly nightshade for many years. But not much experience with henbane.

Not really. Not anymore. I have learnt to respect these kind of plants.

Yes!

My favourite nightshades. I grow them every year. I have been growing nightshades for 22 years. But there are many which I haven't grown. Like mandrake. I cannot find mandrake anywhere.

 

I've heard of Mandrake but that's as much as I know.

 

I see there are mandrake seeds on E bay.

 

Yes. But they are quite expensive. And I do not know how to propagate them and there germination rate.

Is it true that henbane was used in brewing alcohol? Or am I mistaken.

No. Just a dedicated nightshade grower.
