Has anyone had any experience growing morning glory in the UK?

I have tried many times but it has never flowered for me. I have some seedlings at the moment, but what is the average that you can have in one large plant pot?
I think I have to many.

    Thank you.
    Adam.

    Hi ,

bit early to plant seed much better to plant mid April as it’s too cold and wet until then and need to be kept frost free.

best in a large pot multipurpose compost .. needs to be kept in a sunny spot out of the wind.

need to be fed once a week , I use tomato feed.
Try that I will be surprised if they don’t flower

      Excellent! Thanks alot.

So should I scrap the seedlings or let them grow still?

I think they will get far too big before you can put them outside in May, they grow fast in warm conditions but just sulk if they get cold, often not recovering from getting chilled.

I grew them last year for the first time. I didn’t sow them until later March in our (cold) greenhouse. I haven’t anywhere light enough to set things off inside. They grew well eventually but didn’t start flowering until late September. We did get about 6 weeks or so out of them.

        Sounds good.

Thanks for the right time to sow.
I think my problem is not waiting to plant them.

Can I suggest even later sowing, mid April is early enough, that gives them around 6 weeks before hardening off and putting outside in June, without checking the growth.
They are a fairly tender half hardy plant.

I was really replying to @Butterfly6.
I think that maybe why they flowered so late due to a cold start.

In comparison to this winter, yes, but admittedly it wasn't one to remember for its long extended sunshine.

@Adam422 I grow the "Granpa Otis" variety. I find they germinate quite easily ( sown March/April depending where you are ) and flower well from May/June to October. A S/E aspect seems to suit them the best As with most plants, all depends on your location and climate - not so easy these days tho with the extremes we are experiencing. Good luck with them anyway :)

We were given some seeds about 6 years from a neighbour. She told us that she doesn't sow seeds until May. We started them off earlier in April indoors and when a good size then transplanted out but into the ground and not pots. Since then we have collected seeds from the plants and each year we have a good flowering session. However once planted out they do tend to sulk and take a long time to get moving and climb up the supports.
