Excuse the new thread, but it might still get colder, there might be a frost or two, or more on the way, depending where you live, maybe too early to put up your gloves and wellingtons away for the final time. But something special is on the way that is unstoppable, but life affirming and generally right on cue - today I had my first glimpse of yellow in the border.

    Spring is its way.

It's a relief to see spring bulbs flowering isn't it, it's a sign that winter is on the way out

I felt the same about my first Iris reticulata on Wednesday which has been joined by two more today, with more on the way :blue thumb:.

I always get a lift when the first signs of life appear.

Fabulous shades of blue! Are these tasty to slugs?

Thank you, yes nice deep blue and a light blue contrast. There’s also some yellow blotches discreetly hidden. Slugs abandoned my garden when I got rid of two large beds of Bergenias . I think it might be a bit too early for slugs anyway and the flowers don’t last long.

I just went out to take a picture on the far end of my zoom lens's reach, as it's far too wet to get anywhere near them.
This is an old derelict pond I filled in. The reddish blur in the foreground is a hebe (Mrs Winder) growing further up the slope. The daffodils were free bulbs from work after they refreshed all the planters, so I've no idea what variety. I have fuschias in there too - it's quite a shady spot once my trees are in leaf. I need to go and tidy up all those sticks, they were originally stuck in to discourage foxes/cats from digging when I planted the fuschias.

                    Thanks for this thread @GreenFingeredPete , it's a good mood one :)

I was in a business Teams call the other day and we had to wait a bit for everyone to join so it was time for the awkward small talk. Someone mentioned seeing the first Crocus that day and suddenly a bunch of smart suit wearing business folks were all comparing notes on Crocuses and Daffs they had seen. It was quite special. :)

It's like that in my workplace. My last performance review largely consisted of myself and my manager (young bloke) discussing what vegetables we were growing.

I am seeing a bit more yellow in the garden. Definitely my favourite time of year. Everything is n fresh and new, nature puts on her display, only that nature can do.

For some odd reason my Daffs have been out since Christmas and are still giving out a good show.

Not plants but we have a robin and a wren both making nests in the ivy outside the office window. They are about 5ft from where I am sitting now.

The wall with the ivy is at right angles to myself and the window so is directly in view. We usually have a minimum of three nests there each year.

I’ve been watching very busy magpies building a huge nest at the top of the oak tree. :) I just wish they would stop raiding my Robinias for twigs.
