We are sometimes puzzled and amused where Chere Khan (Munchkin) and Hoover Van Dyson (Van) sleep. They are indoor/outdoor babes, only being allowed out between 8am and 6/8pm. They both nearly always come in to use the litter box, although they have a private Sand Garden to use if desired.

Sleep ... they have various cushions. bean bags and igloos and are permitted on the bed. They like arms/backs of chairs and sofas. Then there are the dining chairs under the table under the bed, on the corner of the bathtub, in closets they have managed to get into, in the dirty linen hamper. on the printer or office chair. Of course, if you happen to have left an empty box lying about, that is a perfect feline receptacle. It can be exhausting if you are looking for them. :heehee: :cat-kittyandsmiley:

When in the bed, the lazing position can be on your legs, between your legs, on your ribs or chest. Munchkin is fond of draping herself around the neck or head haring your pillow ... or under the covers with you. Van is too big for these antics so prefers a place where he can shove you off the bed. They often "Share" T'other Half on the sofa or bed while watching TV playing double decker, Munch on his chest Van, occupying his outstretched legs.

They are out now in the sunshine, he up in his tree house in the Jacaranda and she on the stone wall to the orchard. When they come in, we will each be honoured to have one on our lap.

Where do your cats sleep ... or like to sit? :cat-kittyandsmiley: Dogs are welcome too. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

I find my cats seem to move around, possibly to find the perfect temperature, so they change from by the window, on the kitchen chairs, by the radiator, on our bed or on a sofa (particularly when someone moves of it). They have beds and cushions dotted about. In the evening they both like to find a lap - Charlie (aka Detective Inspector) always goes on me and George (aka Chief Inspector) always goes to OH. For bedtime, they might stay on the sofa (plenty of throws on there) or come up to bed where they like to sleep on (not the best) or next too our legs (warm in Winter).

      Funny creatures aren’t they?

Bella likes to sleep on the settee in the kitchen or underneath a dining chair in a small bedroom. I bought her a set of little steps to climb up to the settee because she's got arthritis and can't jump any more. When I open the French doors she sits on the top step and looks down the garden.
Sometimes she sleeps on the landing so I've put a cat bed there for her.

In the summertime she sleeps under the shrubs in the garden or on the windowsill in the shed, but she comes into the house at about 9pm-ish. In the winter however, she hardly goes outside the door.
She sits on the shed windowsill for hours, giving the evil eye to anyone taking their dog for a walk up the little road past the bottom of my garden !

Unlike the other cats we've had she just won't stay on the bed for more than about 5 mins, and she never comes on my lap.

Ben, being young tends to sleep in lots of different places, but he seems to prefer off the ground, so any chair is free for the taking.

At night he has a bed in the corner of my bedroom but often spends a few minutes on my bed with me before moving to his own bed.

By 6.00am he is on the move and trying to get me up and out of bed.

Midnight usually sleeps either on top of the kitchen wall cabinets or in his travelling basket which is stored in the utility room - with the door open. Truffles likes the cave on his cat scratcher tree which is right next to the radiator, or the cat bed at the bottom of the stairs.
Neither of them are allowed in my bedroom at night (doctor's orders - allergies) but Truffles sometime sleeps on my bed during the day.

The cat wake-up calls can be interesting. My George has perfected his routine of tapping my face, then knocking things off my bedside table and if that doesn’t work, he will have a fight with his brother which he knows will stir me. Sometimes he will ‘mew’ in my face with the paw tap, which is quite cute, and often works to be fair.

Our two like the back of the sofa where I sit in the evening. We've put cat mats on there to try to keep the worst of the hair off the sofa. In the daytime they're usually upstairs in the little room where OH has his desk, computer, general man-cave stuff. We have a radiator cat bed in there which Thistle likes (and one in the living room which she also likes). There's an armchair up there with a lambswool blanket/throw over it, and Hamish likes to get on the chair underneath the blanket, and he likes any windowsill that he can get onto between the plants. They also have their own beds and a cat tree with a couple of enclosed boxes, and a high shelf by the window in the utility room which they both like to sit on.

Thistle will stay on our bed but she's a fidget and also has a thing for stealing socks, gloves etc so she's not allowed in the bedroom while we're sleeping or when we're not in there (she comes in while I'm reading in bed before I go to sleep), Hamish won't often get on the bed - I think she's claimed it as her territory. There's also a spot on the landing floor where the heating pipes run underneath which they both like (but not at the same time).

Neither will settle on laps for long.

We have much the same scenario as Victoria. Our two cats use any and all flat surfaces they fancy throughout the house, except the kitchen. The preferred day beds are well-cushioned chairs in the temporary conservatory. They can keep a sleepy eye on the terrace bird feeders without having to actually stir a paw :-)

Oh, what a wonderful response to a fun question. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I love all the scenarios and names to these furry bundles of joy. :rolleyespink:  ;) :cat-kittyandsmiley:

@pete, thank you for including Ben. I bet he can't remember when he didn't have a home with you.

@Michael Hewett I am so pleased Bella is doing better and what a god idea to put steps for her to the sofa.

@AuntyRach what fun names for your inquisitive duo. Are they house cats? Also Munchkin is like George re faffing on J's bedside table and attacking her brother.

@katecat58 Ah, you reminded me ... a previous babe of ours Cal like to get on top of the kitchen cabinets and spy. He went from counter to fridge to top ,... normally they are never allowed on the counters.

@JennyJB Your two live in a purrfect Feli--City ... are they house cats? I saw something once where a monstrous tree branch was put angled in a room especially for the cats. We had a cat in England, Pengui,n who used to steal bows and particularly like a black rose hair clip off my dresser constantly.

@noisette47 Your two have their own country to examine ... are they ever home?

Maybe we can keep this thread to put the antics of our cats/dog,

@Victoria, I don't understand how you can keep cats off the worktops, although I wish I could. They are allowed in the kitchen when I am out because their food, water and litter trays are all there.

They've got 2 acres of their own but prefer the mouse-ridden neighbour's field. I think they go on there to provoke her Husky :heehee: A lot depends on the weather, though. When it's cold and damp, they're Olympic grade snoozers in the warm and dry...

Cars have owned us for 57 years and none have ever been allowed up on the counters. Shouting, pointing fingers, swipes, threats .... no/no/nos/naughty boy/girl. Admittedly, I worked full time for 30 of those years and for all i know they had wild parties in my absence ... :heehee:

                            Lovely thread @Victoria.

Yes my boys are house cats but for anyone thinking that’s unfair - they have their own bathroom (!) and plenty of sleeping, hiding and viewing spots. I cannot risk them going out to the busy road.

Our cats in Alabama were house cats, two black boys. Something we would never do again and cringe at the thought now ... we had their front claws removed. :nonofinger:

I can't imagine life without them ... they are our children ... less trauma and cost. :heehee:

Here is Munchkin sunning on the lounger yesterday.
