What's buzzing or flying near you 2025 ?

Saw a Red Admiral on the Bowle’s Mauve this morning.

 

The parakeets are slowly increasing in numbers, but they are still a novelty around here. They chatter amongst themselves and that's usually the first I know they have turned up to feed just outside the kitchen window. Happy birds.

 

I've heard rumours of Parakeets around here but never seen any.
But then I never saw any squirrels around my garden 5 years ago, but they are here every day now.

 

We have an established colony here in North Tyneside. They are nesting and the folks in the houses around say they come into their gardens to steal fruit and nuts.

We have been watching for some years the battle between the Rooks and the Parakeets in a patch where there are several good hollow nesting trees. This spring they seem to have made peace and were sitting in the same tree quite happily without arguments.


I must say that the first one we saw (it was a snowy day) was rather a surprise- I never realised we had them so far up north Quick googling revealed they weren't escaped pets but just established newcomers.

 

This is the first time I have managed to get a reasonable shots of a Firecrest as they are so fast, hardly stopping. This one is overwintering at the sewage treatment works near Corfe Castle along with many Chiffchaffs.The heat from the filter beds provide an abundance of flies.

Saw a butterfly today but so quick and away. Could it have been a small tortoisehell?

 

Yes indeed. A bird still missing from my life list.

 

Long tailed tits in the garden this morning.

 

In a far off distant country at the moment staying with our daughter in Perth, Western Australia these are our neighbourhood visitors, Galah , pretty noisy though

 

First bee I've seen in the house this year

 

I had goldcrests in the garden at lunchtime, the first time I've seen any this year.

Also a wood pigeon eating the ivy berries. They've only just ripened, probably because my garden gets so little sun over the winter months. Mind you I've seen the wood pigeons eating the berries green too.

 

A hornet flew over the garden room. Seems very early.

 

Had a big old bumble bee stuck in the conservatory today, but I'm sure I saw a honey bee doing the rounds in the garden.
