The biggest issue I see, is that, even if the "coalition of the willing" is the greatest idea ever, we are still dealing with a nutter. I don't mean vlad, rather the one who hates Obama and has always been jealous of his Nobel peace prize. I don't think he'd want people stealing his glory.

 

Trump is after regime change in Ukraine … because Putin wants that. All these set pieces with the media, calling Zelensky a dictator and now the US Speaker saying Zelensky must have an attitude of gratitude to the US or he must step aside.

Then some puppet willing to do Russian and US bidding will be levered into place and, in addition, Trump will claim he solved it all.

US intervention is a poisoned chalice for Ukraine, apparent peace deal or not.

 

The way I see it is at least something is happening, it's been three years of Ukrainians dying and everyone else providing the money just to ensure it continues that way.
Ukraine is bound to lose whatever happens they are losing ground to Russia most of the time anyway.

 

But the world’s leaders should be badgering Putin, not Zelensky.

Let's hope so. Though the people of Ukraine may have very little real say re any replacement.

 

Problem is that until you can convince Zelenski that the only way to stop the war is to compromise you cant even consider starting on Putin.

What does Zelenski want, I think he just wants the war to go on and everyone to keep throwing money and weapons their way, he wants NATO membership so that he can drag everyone else into it.

Dont get me wrong, I understand what may happen is not fair, but things arn't always fair, his decision to make is does he want to work with America or does he want Russia to take the country by force over the next 10yrs.

Even if he choses America its not 100% that Russia will agree to it.

 

It would appear that all the world leaders have to trot over to the White House - perhaps it's time for Trump and his acolytes to crawl out of their cave and actually visit these war zones to see what is happening for themselves ? Some hope !!

Gosh, @pete, I don’t think Zelensky wants that at all. I’m sure he wants the war to end, but doesn’t see why Putin should just take territory and be allowed to get away with it. He is willing to do deals - on his leadership, on NATO, on mineral rights. He’s just standing up for his people. Fighting for 3 yrs and then having to hand over way more in value than the help received is not a good bargain.

 

So what does he want?
Russia to backdown and go away.
Its not going to happen.

You have to know when you are losing a fight, and try to make the best compromise.

I just dont understand what he wants from the west.

 

He wants reassurances that the US will not snaffle their minerals and then depart, leaving Ukraine just as exposed all over again. Ukraine signed a deal before - it would not have nuclear weapons, but in return it would be safe. Well … they were sold a dud.
