Maybe the "flat earthers" have a point - it's certainly looking pretty flat in the numerous war zones:sad:
Anyone else astounded by the incident in the North Sea - one ship at anchor and another gaily ploughs into it ??? The inevitable pollution doesn't bear thinking about.

@Philippa - we can call or email our local council to tell them about potholes and they're filled within days. Every 12 to 15 months or so a high tech truck goes round every local road in our rural council area and detects holes and cracks. It then scrapes out the loose stuff and leaves a rectangular repair so our roads increasingly looks like a very old, very patched item of clothing.

We than have to drive slowly for a while till the new gravel chippings settle down but not because we might break our wheel or axel.

With a bit of thought I'm sure a few local councils in the UK could get together and buy such a truck to send out every day to fill holes - cheaper than fielding all the complaints and claims for damages and definitely safer.

It is never the fault of the electorate. You can only vote for someone on the ballot paper. If the candidates are low-quality, you inevitably end up in a mess. The whole concept of politics needs a deep clean across the world, but especially in so-called democracies. Big money must never have more sway than individual citizens, so all contributions, lobbying, etc should be banned.

The liberal left is as much to blame for the situation as the hard right, and the most blame attaches to the media, especially outlets like the BBC which bangs on daily about being impartial whilst serving its own agenda. If trust has gone and conspiracy theories abound, that is a direct result of agenda reporting served up as “the truth”.

@Philippa the suspicion is that there was nobody on watch on the ship which hit the other one. Data seems to show it on a straight course at 16 knots and making no attempt to avoid.

@Obelix-Vendee Apparently the Government of Ontario imports all alcohol to Ontario, and don't have to pay for it until it's sold. They have therefore returned it all to the USA and this has caused mass layoffs with some producers.
Trump has been back-pedalling fast on some of the tariffs he imposed. Some removed within 24 hours of hime applying them.

@KT53 Yes that was my initial understanding. No doubt there will be yet another "enquiry" (equally long winded as usual ) but in the meantime, I wonder who will have to pay for the cleaning up - if that is even remotely possible.

I think you will find we also mostly depend upon US sattelites for military defense.

Regarding potholes did anyone see the new stuff on the TV that repairs its self, apparently if it cracks it welds itself back together, or was I watching an early April fools joke.

Trump has just put the tarrif on Canadian Iron and Aluminium up to 50% according the news on the radio, in response to the 25% Canada has put on its electricity prices to the US.
Seems to be getting slightly out of hand.

                  who's going to blink first?

Canada can sell its goods to other countries - eg UK, EU, South America - as there's always a market for iron and aluminium. trump and co are biting off their nose to spite their face and at the expense of all those citizens who thought he'd bring down prices and MAGA. In their dreams - or maybe nightmares now.

That ship crash is appalling but all too easy with so many ships flagged to countries which allow cheap labour and do not regulate systems, working conditions and navigational standards.

It's retaliation for Trudeau being replaced By Mark Carney and Mark Carney and the liberals likely to win this years election.

You'd think that with all the technology that they are trying to push onto us, such as self-driving cars etc, that they'd be better employed working on self-piloting and collision avoidance software for ships.

Apparently someone has been arrested, so that will likely be the captain...

I understand the tanker was carrying fuel for jet aircraft, so I suspect it will be quite 'light' not like crude oil. Hopefully much of it will burn off.

Thanks to that moron Trump and his ridiculous posturing, share prices have dropped by about 10% in the last week!

The last news report I saw on TV said that was the source of the fire - also, apparently the other one wasn't carrying any hydrogen cyanide as had originally been thought, so that is somewhat less damaging to the environment than originally thought.... still downright awful though.

The Solong one is apparently still afloat but not expected to stay afloat for very long and if it heads toward land, it I'd be surprised if they don't scuttle it.
