How do you know that the US wants a deal that will allow Russia to crush Ukraine, that is inevitable anyway if things go on as they are.
I kind of take a lot of what Trump says with a pinch of salt, I think it's part of his aggressive nature, it's a bit like when our government leaks ideas just to see if they get any backlash, if not they go ahead and do it,if they do they deny they even thought about it.
Difference is Trump can't help saying things without too much thinking.

Trump doesn’t necessarily want a deal that will crush Ukraine, but he doesn’t seem to care if that is the outcome. He is only thinking of the money side of things and bigging himself up. This is not a man with empathy for civilians or who seems to care much about what is fair and just. Crucially he sees no problem with Putin coming out the winner. That would have been an issue for previous presidents.

Trump doesn’t really do “politics” (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and he doesn’t seem to look too far ahead in terms of what his rhetoric may do to the world order. Now, you could argue it’s a refreshing change to have someone who just gets on with stuff, but there may be unintended consequences down the line. Is he worse than a wokey liberal leftie? Maybe not. But people deserve better than either, IMV.

Interestingly Trump has history with peace deals and resources, first time round the American Geological Service were all over Afghanistan mapping resources; then deal was let US have access to resources andwe'll continue to support Government against the Taliban: Government said no and support vanished like the morning mist.

Maybe the time has come when we should stop meddling in other countries disputes, we only ever seen to come out the loser or if we win we get condemned.

Regime change has always been the aim in the past similar to Russia in that respect.
If there is nothing in it for you you don't get involved.
If you belong to an organisation like NATO or the Commonwealth then you have certain obligations but the days of trying to police the world just get you in trouble.

I suspect the world can no longer be “policed” anyway. That could get very uncomfortable if the number of authoritarian leaders rises.

I think the term authoritarian is open to discussion, its a bit like one persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter.
I'm finding Starmer fairly Authoritarian, but he is trying to do some good things as well.

Its just a case of if you want the state to tell you how and when you can do things, some people do, some people dont.
We found that out during covid.

The endless requests for Reviews.........How did we do ? How do you rate your "experience" ? Why have you given us a 1/2/3/4/5 Star rating ? Your feedback is important to us. Tell us how we can improve. Were you still alive when we delivered your order ? If not, please supply details of your next of kin in order that we can pester them too !!

I think it’s a bit more than that, @pete. It’s using oppression to stifle opposition or reasonable dissent. It’s allowing laws that benefit those in power (and their wealthy backers) while disadvantaging everyone else.

It's the delusions of someone who thinks everyone believes what they do. I don't belive there was ever any thoughts of the US forcing anyone to give up land, rather that they would warmly welcome them in. It's an arrogance that the rest of the world doesn't take part in and one that is causing alot of trouble at the moment.
I don't think they realise the damage being done, trade and defence partners are being reconsidered and if things don't change quickly, it could do a lot of harm to the states.

I've stopped filling them in, or if I do I usually hit the middle number and say you did as you were supposed to.

I fill them in if the service was very good and, sometimes, if it was bad. With regard to the bad bit, if it is a big company I fill it in and say exactly what I think. If it's a small local company I send them an email saying what I thought was wrong and, if possible, how I think it should have been made better.

I recently emailed a local restaurant that we go to frequently and said how disappointing it was this time but didn't think a negative review on a website is appropriate if they are able to solve the problem (grilled chicken was overcooked and extremely tough). We told the staff at the time and they took that meal off the bill. In response to my email the owner apologised, thanked me for telling them directly and gave us a £50 voucher. :blue thumb: We shall order the same meal next time to see if it has improved.

I think I may have said this before but at a couple of clubs I go to there are quite a few of the members who are saying they are attempting to swap from buying American to buying Canadian where possible.

I am guilty and bought some of that Reese chocolate. I think everyone said it was disgusting and I'd never heard of it before. I thought it was OK. Only need one square, which is good for me. It had peanut butter in it. Seemed pricey.

Otherwise don't we buy software, computer components and phones from America?

Physical imports from the US maybe but alot of the high street is American. McDonald's, starbucks, burger king, subway, KFC, domino's...... Pepsi, coke, kelloggs and that's just food

Most computing systems, payment systems, some banks, insurance, streaming providers, social media and a lot of ecommerce.

It's quite hard to avoid them really.
