I can understand your viewpoint @Bluejayway but I live in the country and like to see animals in the fields. I do limit us to free range meat and poultry and we do have 2 veggie days a week and loads of veg the other days and everything is as local as possible.

True, @Bluejayway, though there are not 9 billion gorillas fighting for resources. :)

I don't like the idea of killing animals to eat, but as I am very limited on the foods I can consume (having trouble digesting many vegetables and fruits, nuts, pulses, lentils, pasta, rice, soya, lactose, and so on), I really couldn't manage without it. I stopped buying whole chickens as I couldn't bear to witness the damage inflicted on their skeletons. So, I just buy pieces now. I realise that does not solve the problem at source. I never waste any fish or meat. A living thing died so I could be fed and I try to be appreciative of that.

I'm sure I heard on the radio the other day a thought about lab grown meat - why not grow human meat? I did groan. I expect animals would think that's a good idea.

I'm firmly in the camp of the traditional French philosophy (now all but disappeared) of a little of a wide variety of foods....a balanced diet. Where it differs wildly from UK meals is that instead of a great big plateful of everything together , you'd have , say, vege soup or a salad as a starter, then meat or fish and potatoes or rice, pasta etc. A bit of cheese (often with salad leaves), then fruit or a dessert. No wonder they had a 2 hour lunch break ! And the workers and schoolchildren mostly ate in restaurants or canteens. The statistics for longevity speak for themselves......

We live almost at the end of a road, and our neighbours on the corner, next door, have installed false grass!! Their property is slightly higher than ours, so we need to now ensure our garden can cope with the additional run-off when it rains.

Given the environmental impact false grass has (and fully paving over), I do feel that planning permission ought to be required for these instances.

              Humph! Moan over!!

What is underneath the fake grass, usually I think they lay it on something that allows drainage.

The 'grass' is also permeable isn't it?

                    It’s permeable … but it won’t drink. :)

It's normally laid on a sand base and I think under that is hardcore.

Sounds like you have been looking at my daily menu.

Though although loving veg I must admit that I'm a devout carnivore.

I'll never really understand the recent extremism in so many aspects of modern life :old: Whether it's food or gardening methods or certain religions, it's surely better to be able to exchange opinions and ideas civilly ( as per GC) than the evangelical and sometimes hysterical outpourings on other platforms. The term 'influencers' says it all, really...

Sounds good to me, a sensible way to respect the human digestive system! The sight of huge plates of food in front of people in restaurants and pubs puts me off going to them. I'm not keen on the people either .

It was lovely while it lasted. Sadly, now the French are plunging headlong into the ready-meal, burger/pizza/KFC culture.
