Reasons to be cheerful? This might sound a bit banal but I just unearthed an old statement from Selfridges. Used to shop there all the time when I live in Herts and Essex. I rang to check if it was still active and it is! [IMG]

I opened the account in 1968 when one used to make a fixed monthly payment and when you visited the store, go to the office and make a withdrawal of toy money which you could spend in the store! So no monthly bills to be paid. Then in 1972, much to my chagrin, it was converted into the modern credit account with the now oh so familiar plastic card. I still use the account on and off though last purchase was in Jan 05!

May sound silly but I really like the fact I have clocked up 44 years as a customer there! :heehee: Happy memories!

My mother is here. She came into the garden decrying the fact my washing line is still down (its been down for 3 weeks, Ive had other stuff to do!) I tried to head off the criticism by placing a purple sweet pea behind her ear and telling her she looked lovely.

It was to no avail; 15 minutes of nagging later Im up a ladder attempting to fix a duff pulley system. She wasnt pleased with my efforts. So my mother took it upon herself to hang a line just a metre above ground along almost the entire length of the garden. The place now looks like Im hosting the Limbo World Cup.

I point this out and get told off for being rude. As the telling off is reaching full take off speed, she trips and falls on her face headlong into my broad beans. There is a momentary appalled silence as I stand gaping at the woman who gave me life, spreadeagled amongst my veg, and then I rush to help her up on her feet.
Not a word does she utter, she huffs her way inside and it takes all of 3 seconds before Ive dissolved onto the lawn helpless with the giggles.

The woman has been here 40 minutes, in that time she has had me up a ladder, strung a garrotting wire across my garden and laid waste to my beans. She has trashed months of work!
But who cares? There is literally a person shaped hole in my veg patch.

      *cracks up* :D

Oh and thats the washing line she hung up going through the top of the photo!

        Mother knows best!

She's not good with ridicule, so Im going to have to get this out of my system before I go back inside.
Every time I look at that photo I want to wee myself! :D:D

I hope you have a large collection of crop tops à la Britney Spears circa 1999, Melinda. Because I'm not sure anything else is going to dry on that line.

Don't you have staff to do that kind of thing, darling? :D

I see you are using the modern word. We still call our's, servants. You don't want them getting above themselves, my dear!

one of my hobbies is hifi/music

one of my son's college mates saved up a bit of money and wanted to buy a reasonable hifi / stereo system for his bedroom (large sized bedroom ... 6m x 4m)

my son asked me to help ... ended up buying an older Pioneer A400 amplifier .... an older marantz cd63 MKII K1 signature cd player and a pair of Mission 753 floorstanding speakers .... bought some used speaker cables and a used interconnect .... total price for all the components came to just over £460

set up the system initially in the lounge next to his father's £5000+ stereo system ....

his father was very 'sceptical' .... we done a comparisson and the cheaper system is better (by far) .... the look on his father's face was 'priceless'

I had the exact same setup several years ago

                I'm really puzzled!!!

A few minutes ago I looked at Melinda's post and the pictures were in full size. Now they are in small size and can't be read :cry3:. How am I going to explain to Mrs shiney what I was laughing at? :dunno:
