[IMG] Has any body used Nicky's Nurseries in Broadstairs Kent.?? I know there are quite a few of you who live over in that part of the country.. [IMG]

[IMG] Well, I can only praise them for excellent service, quality products, their seeds seem excellent. Your order is accompanied by a CD catalogue, but it is not just a catalogue, there are superb information sections so again, excellent for the beginner or experienced gardener alike.. They have just about everything you need... [IMG] [IMG]

I bought lots of mail order seeds from Nickys - yes they gave me a nice CD -but I would have been much happier with seeds that actually germinated!

Gave seeds to my friends and family to trial after my miserable attempts, but they had no success either. Complete waste of time and money - not to mention good seed compost!!

To add insult to injury a lot of the packets simply hadn't enough seeds in them! e.g stated contents "average 40 seeds" actually had only 9!!

Contacted nickys on several occasions.....e mailed...telephoned..... Every time the lady I spoke to was rude and uninterested - merely saying they are running germination trials. She hasn't even bothered to reply to the problem of the shortage of seeds. It is now 4 months later!

Obviously they hold their customers in very poor regard if they feel they can merely ignore customers with any queries or problems.

I would warn fellow gardeners NOT to use this company!

    That's a shame Katy.

I've used Nicky's Nursery in the past. The service was excellent and no problem with the seeds.

I've used Nicky's Nursery as well, all my seeds have germinated OK.

After 4 months you need to start getting formal with them, write to them and say the seeds supplied are "Not fit for purpose", tell them how many seeds were supplied and what you expected plus the non-germinating seeds. "Not fit for purpose" is the term under the Sales of Goods Act, give them 7 working days to respond and exepct to get your money refunded for the non-germinating seeds and the seeds that were not of the specified quantity.

Let us know how it goes.

Sorry to hear that Katy... I still use them & have not experienced any of the problems you have... I think you need to put it in writing as well as JWK says... What a shame, as I say not had any of those problems & have always found them to be helpful, but I do it on line..

I would not recommend this supplier either. The seeds I ordered from them in January have not germinated. (All the seeds from other suppliers sprang into life immediately.) Two e-mails and two phone calls (also answered by a rude and uninterested woman, whom I suspect is Nicky herself) have yielded no results. It sounds like one of those hit-and-miss enterprises where if all goes well, no problem; but any failures or difficulties are simply ignored.

Katy, as JWK suggests, put your compaint in writing, be factual and objective and ask them to address your complaint within say, 7 days.

It would also be worth pointing out to them that their company has been the subject of discussion on the UK's formost gardening forum and continued negative feedback by members can do their business no good at all.

It wil be in their long term interest to see that their customers are satisfied with both product and service.

That's a shame as I was thinking of ordering seeds from the company. I will wait now to see what the outcome is.

That really is a shame to hear as I have never had a problem with their seeds in the past, so am surprised to hear that.. They are an established company now, but then I didn't really send for much seed at all last year.. :(

Please note that katy_b posted way back in 2009 and that was her only post. The_heron has only just joined this forum and has only made one post. I would not form an opinion of a supplier on the basis of their posts.

I've used Nicky's Nursery quite a lot in the last couple of years, all the seeds have been good and the only issue I've had was a missing packet from one order, which Nicky replaced without question asap.

It sounds like we should be treating the above complaining posts with caution. I didn't realise the thread was so old. Slapped wrists.:o

I've bought some seeds from Nicky's this year, although I haven't sown them yet, and in the seeds I received was a free packet of seeds with a little hand written note saying that they hoped I liked them and wishing me success. I like the way the seeds are packed, in small plastic vials, and all of them have the correct number of seeds in them. A lot of us buy from smaller sized seed companies in the belief, and hope, that we'll benefit from the better service and value they have to give to compete with the main names.:D

I check the reviews on davesgarden.com website before ordering seeds from abroad and this is what they are for Nickys Nursery here in the UK:

'Nicky's Nursery' - 8 positives, No neutrals, No negatives

I think they were the only supplier I've ever used that emailed me to verify I'd received the seeds I'd ordered. I haven't sown them yet, but I'm one of those gardeners who will make everbody they can aware of poor service/germination/etc.
