Hi Arwen,no you don't pinch out the tips, pinching out the tips encourages bushy growth, lady boothby is sold as a climbing fuchsia which it isn't it is a fuchsia with upright growth that has very long growing leaders these are usually tied in to a trellis as the are not self clinging,it's not a true climber as T&M claim but non the less it has nice flowers.

I got a cutting of this at the end of last year which I have overwintered inside. It is growing like wildfire now, so I will have to get planting it soon. Any tips for care, Walnut, bearing in mind it is still relatively small - will it cope outside in the cold and wet of our north west home?! ;)

Hi Dave Lady Boothby is a hardy fuchsia give it to the end of the month then plant it out it will take off like a rocket it will lose all its leaves come next winter cut the stems right back in spring to about 6"and off it will go again.Joyce lots of fuchsias are hardy and can be left out all year round you need to know which one you have.

Cheers for posting that walnut, saved me. Whenever aged parent hears someone refer to lady boothby as a climbing fuchsia, she goes into one, and more or less says what you posted.

    :phew:
