    Kristen,
the NGS came to us last year and asked us to go into their book. Although it was an honour to be asked we declined because we wanted all the money raised to go to the charity we support. The NGS is an excellent scheme.

I'm always ready for a bargain but I have to resist buying a bargain because it is a bargain. I done that a few times and afterwards realised that I'd already got one or I didn't need it!! I've just bought some Dahlias from Aldi at £1.25p for 4 in a pack - whereas the local Nursery is selling 3 for £3.95p. A lot of the plants in the garden are cuttings from several places I visited and have the added value of good memories. I have a bench running the length of the Gable end wall of the house and that carries a fair amount of cuttings etc in pots ready for planting or giving away. I have some friends who are "fairly wealthy" and their garden is in the French courtyard style. Every plant they've got in the garden has been bought in specimen size and they dabble in gardening but really don't understand it!! The thought of spending 50p on a bargain plant is beyond them! They have spent a lot of money on the garden and yet they get no where near the enjoyment out of it as some of my less financially well off friends do!! But, anyway the next bargain I see I will desist from buying, well maybe, perhaps ... Oh Sod it .... I course I will!!

Best I ever had was on the scarecrow walk a year or two back.
A lady was giving away really healthy looking tomatoes for free.!
They grew a treat, fruited loads and tasted great.

Wlikos now have 20% off all seed potatoes, onion setts, shallots, fruit bushes, etc. (everything you plant, so doesn't include seeds).

That gets the price of a 3kg bag of seed potatoes down from £2.98 to, £2.38 (although they were previously 2 for £5), onion setts from £1.38 to £1.10, etc.

    This could be a bargain.

T&M £10 worth of seeds 'lucky dip' for £1 (and you can get free P&P). EDIT: free P&P no longer works

    Go to http://www.thompson-morgan.com/publ...3_1300522962_af21787f1a65fed5870edf787470d413

To get free P&P, when at the checkout enter the code GWRW in the 'Catalogue or Newspaper Code' box and click on apply:

EDIT: T&M now require a code (AFPPCFS) to get this down from £10 to £1, and as this code has to be entered in the same box as the one that gets free P&P, it's no longer such a good offer.

I also checked if the 20% off for 2 hours on Wed 23rd March worked on this deal, but it does not (I was wondering if I could get these down to 80p with free shipping!).

Got my seeds from above offer today

Autumn King carrot (a carrot I grow)
Cosmos (I'll use for cut flowers)
Parsnip panache F1 (needed some more parsnip seeds)
Basil (was down to my last pkt)
Sweet peas (been saving my own seed for over 10 yrs, so maybe 2 types this year
Legouse Pentagonia 'Looking Glass' (I'm going to have to Google that)

I got all those for £1 incl P&P, but as I ordered 2 lucky dips I've got 2 of each for £2. I was rather hoping that being 'lucky dip' I'd get a different selection.

Did anyone else take adavantage of this offer?

Has anyone ordered seeds/plants from Amazon? I know it's a weird thing to ask, wouldn't thought they would sell them, but they seem to be selling everything these days.

What condition where they in when you got them? Seeds are usaly about 99p per a pack (good deal?) at Amazon by the way, could be worth taking the risk.

Our local farm shop sells plants, but it's seems to be very much a secondary concern apart from bedding plants, veg plants and strawberry plants lol...

But tucked away at the back of a polly tunnel, my wife found me a Magnolia Yellow River yesterday for £10!!!; a bargain considering it's a healthy looking 2 1/2ft plant with 3 strong stems. I'm a happy man as I've seen these between £30 & £50 in garden centres for similar sized plants...

They have lots of other shrubs scattered around too, many looking a little tired and normal but I'll keep an eye for any other rarities...

    Chaplins

We had to meet someone today in a Chaplin's carpark, and not to miss the chance of nosing around a garden shop we popped in, it's not a place we have ever been before, most of the stuff was pretty ordinary but they had a load of fruit trees (apples pears cherry etc) in boxes and I found a peach tree amongst them, showing signs of new growth so I bought it having the perfect south facing fence to grow it along :) lets hope it was a bargain at £4.99.

Now that is a proper bargain Scrungee - well done. Pity I've already bought all the seed potatoes I need, and tonight a neighbour popped around his spare Jersey Royal seed.

I thought I had all I needed but at that price decided I must have some more.

I've just ordered 168 begonia plug plants from T&M for £7.98 incl P&P (normally £24.98 +P&P) for my front garden display this year:

Begonia semperflorens 'Organdy' Mixed F1 - Spring Varieties 2011 - Thompson & Morgan

And once again use code GWRW in the 'Enter catalogue or newspaper code' at the checkout to get free P&P.

4.75p per (plug) plant delivered seems cheap enough for me.

I bought a red Acer which stands around 12"-15" tall for £2.38 yesterday in Wilkos, I'm sure I saw these for sale at the RHS flower show in Cardiff the same size last weekend for around £10/15
