Yes indeed, here it is, just 2 weeks after planting it in the top of my compost bin; it's taken on an almost animalistic persona and is spreading out quickly; it's now scaling the adjacent conifer hedge; which is dense enough to support any pumpkins....hopefully; just male flowers so far..

I enjoying having a bit of fun with this one :D :thumb:

The main vine on one plant has snapped, although its still attached time will tell if it keeps growing, its snapped at around 20ft from the roots and just after the second set fruit. I dont know if sideshoots will be enough to support the growth needed...I'll monitor that over the next couple of weeks.

I had three plants planted out, and pulled a weedy looking one a while back, so with one plants main vine snapped, I'm now relying on the third and final one, luckily there is a fruit set on that one too.

So after a weeks holiday I come back to find my pumpkings running riot:

I have two plants, only one has flowers and a few pumpkins have started to form.
The far plant is just interested in climbing my neighbours fence and escaping.

Has anyone else noticed the fragrance of the male flowers? Very sweet smelling a bit like daffodils only over-powering on a sunny day. I've never experienced it before on pumpkins.

No, we went to Centre Parcs at Longleat and everyone got food poisoning except for me and my 2 grandaughters (except one of them caught chickenpox), a normal holiday for us then :rolleyespink:.

Hi Melinda, have you been on holiday?

Well, the pumpkins, after some unwanted winds I was left with one pumpkin plant after donating some to other gardeners via freecycle, so I thought as an experiment and for a bit of fun I'd plant it in the top of a compost bin that was more or less ready for emptying. Within days it began racing away and is now scaling the adjacent conifer hedge, so that should be interesting (see page 13 for pics) :D...

A few fellow pumpkin growers on here do seem to be getting a lot of male flowers and not so many female, if any???

I think pete seems to be in the lead at the moment?? :D :love30:
