I've managed to get a holly tree 'free' off freecycle and pretty sure it's the one named above, it was already dug up when we collected it; it's not the best looking specimen; shape wise, it's quite sparsley branched too, but hey it cost nothing.

It is about 6ft tall and has lots of fine fiborous roots still attached although the thicker anchor roots have been cut,; what do you guys thing, any chance of it re-establishing.

I've gut out the dead stuff and it's currently soaking in a large bucket of water.

    Any tips?

    Thanks

At least I've got nothing to lose...

Don't leave it there long! 20 minutes if its bone dry, 10 otherwise - the roots will rot otherwise

    hi bilbo,

thats pretty big but its worth a try planting seeing as it was free. we are always moving large shrubs at work and it works more often than you'd think. as it has lost its anchoring roots perhaps stake it to give a chance to re-establish and give it feed when you plant it. its getting late now for moving trees, so make sure you keep it watered in dry periods during this summer
