Damn Thrush!

In my Thread, I'm back - beside the seaside! - you'll know that we've moved to a new house. Now, we were in the countryside in the old one so I'm used to birds singing but now we've got a real problem. It's a Song Thrush that insist on singing in the tree on the front lawn.

Yes I know the song is beautiful but when it starts at 5.20am and goes on all day, its beauty wears a bit thin. I found some secondary double-glazing for the bedroom window and sleep with ear-plugs but it still wakes me up, when I want to be asleep.

I've even tried throwing a handful of gravel at the lower branches - not the Thrush, that would be cruel - and all it did was give me a disdainful look before flying to another tree, 10 yards away, and continuing to sing its heart heart. Within a few minutes it was back, barely missing a beat.
Is there anyone out there who is ornithologically inclined who can offer a sultion or give me some indication how long this torture is going to go on? Alternatively, would anyone like a tuneful Song Thrush, free of charge?

Maybe he's the reason that the former owner sold the house!! Sorry not much help!! Make another room your bedroom?

Thanks Marley for your suggestions. Wind chimes sound a possibility. Unfortunately the bedrooms are all in a line and anyway, there's a tree at the back that the Thrush uses when he's not in the front!

At least it is not ALL through the night, Blackbirds can and do sing all through the night. Not sure of a permanent solution but the cds may help.

 

the only thing i can think of is finding him a mate but that me be 'slightly' hard :D lol
seriously though maybe contact a local center and they may can capture him and re locate him to another area not sure though

Phone the RSPB and ask their advice.

 

i`ll do you a swap we have seagulls and ducks they (the seagulls start gobbing off at about 4am every bleeding day they screech down the chimney and tap the window for me to come feed them the ducks are more pleasant and arrive about 7am for their breakfast,the seagulls even nest at my garden !!!!!!!:gaagh:

 

I think you just have to get used to it Boghopper.
Once you do you won't hear it anymore. People get used to cockerels crowing their heads off.
I know what you mean about thrushes - flippin rock band !
The blackies never bother me - if I'm awake I just enjoy listening to the variations in their song and wish I could write it down.
Many years ago a cuckoo took up perch on the telephone wire above our house and cuckooed from dawn til dusk. It nearly drove me insane. I tried everything to get rid of that bird - no success. I still can't stand the sound of a cuckoo - unless it's miles away.
Just try to learn to love the thrush :D

Thanks everyone and Ho Ho Ho! Ziggy. I'm off to bed now so at least I get some sleep before he starts again. Oh, and Bambooruth, We've seagulls here too, but they're no problem - so far. However, if I catch the Thrush, I'll send him to you so you can "enjoy" his dulcet tones!
