Hi, I have some plants in my pond and I am not sure what they are; see attached pictures. I need to take them out to do some maintenance on the pond and would like to split them (or whatever I need to do to reduce the quantity of them); can anyone tell me what they are please, and maybe even how I should treat them? Thanks, Ian.

The obvious one is the water lily, the other one could be a bog bean that grows out across the surface from its pot. A lovely plant if that is what it is, the one in the pic seems to have a lot of dead/old growth from last year that needs removing. Hope this is of some help....??

Thank you; it looks like it is a bogbean, can I just cut the old growth off without harming the plant?

Yes, just cut out the old/dead and any unwanted growth leaving some healthy shoots and it'll be fine...

You have something floating about, could it be Spirodela polyrhiza
        (the big duckweed in English?)

The others are indeed Menyanthes trifoliata and some Nymphaea.
