Why would they do that ?
I'm not that bothered about the wedding to be honest.
So I have the attitude take it or leave it.
I would like to see the bride and the open carriage trip .
But I'm not interested in the rest.
But take away all the hype and it's still a young couples wedding day.
Why would anyone want to spoil that and use it for their own means as some kind of political protest.
    Some people are very selfish.

I will be watching the wedding at my daughters Friday evening, I have no tv. She will record it so we can cut out a lot of the hype.

I read a lot of history and no matter what people think this is part of it and part of our heritage. We haven't got a lot left in this country to be proud of (the Great has gone out of Britain) but we still have our Royal family and pageantry and I applaud that.

Having said that, we also have Zara and Mike's wedding to look forward to. That will be interesting, being on a much smaller scale. For those of you who are interested, I have a feeling Zara may choose something more diverse for a wedding gown. Slap my wrists if I'm wrong! :)

It's a day out in the garden, staying away from the TV and radio, and a glass or two of red wine by the pond and maybe a toast to the "happy couple":D:yess::heehee:

Sheal, I know I'm showing the extent of my ignorance, and I can hear the gasps so shock now, but who is Zara and Mike?????:hapfeet:

    ARMANDII,
I'd love to answer your question because I like to be a 'know it all' (tried putting in smart ar** but it wouldn't let me) but I was about to ask the same question . :heehee:

    GCQ,
Cheque not here yet so too late for the flight ticket. If your cheque arrives today I'll courier you my ticket for the wedding so you can go to that instead

    Gemini and Lyn,
They are an extreme Islamist group with almost no support even amongst Moslems. You get nutters in all walks of life.

    Strongy,
I feel sorry for you :heehee:. I'll definitely be doing my shopping at that time whilst Mrs shiney shall be comfortably ensconsed in front of the TV.

I wish all the best to the young couple :dbgrtmb:

Well it's looking good for showers tommorrow around 11am, just what the garden needs - it would be a shame for the couple though.

Is it also BANK HOLYDAY ?
Hope for that. So you can thank the Royal Weddings for not going to work... :-)
(And it is also a good Weekend: Friday-Saturday-Sunday... Great to fly a low-cost to a summer resort !
If three days are not enough, just ask your boss for a one or two days-off...)

Clearly the thought of it upsets you, but with respect you are allowing the actions of perhaps 10 or 20 people- in a country of more than 60 million- to smear an entire community. Dont believe their hype, they were never going to do this, they were looking for publicity. And moreover, since most of the Muslims Against Crusades group were more than likely born in Britain (2nd/ 3rd generation) Im not clear about what they are supposed to be thanking us for?

Dont forget you also share your country with the 200 republicans who marched through a Londonderry cemetery earlier in the week openly threatening to kill police men and accusing our Head of State of war crimes.

Its probably best not to allow our prejudices to get in the way of facts, especially on a forum when you have no idea about the background of the people you are speaking to.

We're all geared up for this! Central London looks AMAZING and we have a lovely lunch planned for tomorrow.

Ive got all the time in the world for William, he and his brother are engaging and well adjusted.
Its Kate Im luke warm about- she's near enough 30 years old and has done very little. Its so peculiar. A privileged and expensive education at some of the finest establishments in the country- Kate had the whole world open to her and she did nothing with it. What has she done since graduation?

Its certainly considered strange amongst my own peer group, we're all professionally qualified (or well on the way to being) and we're much younger than her. I confess to being slightly disappointed in Kate's lack of ambition, she found her man and latched on. Its only protocol that stopped her being referred to as a WAG.
The Press mocked Sophie Wessex (and more recently Prince Andrew ) for using her connections to improve her business- but at least she could support herself.

However the people sniping at the Middleton family, making much sport of their 'low' connections :roll eyes: have revealed themselves to be horrible, petty snobs.

      "

I agree with you about prejudice, Melinda, and how emotions can lead to quick judgements regarding different group of races and religion, but [there's always a but:D], certain races and religions have only themselves to blame when they don't integrate into a country/society they have moved into. You can't emigrate into a country and expect to behave as though you are still back in where ever you came from. It's a case of give and take, accepting that you are in a different [and possibly better, otherwise why did you move?] country with a different culture, politics, and religions. Unfortunately, it creates prejudice when immigrants don't integrate, barely speak the new language, live collectively in areas. try to operate the laws, religious or otherwise, in that new country without recognising the authority of the laws of the society they have immigrated to - and that's when you get prejudice. And I do agree with you about extremists, but you have to see that Germini's reaction to the threat to the Royal Wedding [Gawd bless 'em] is a natural one.

But again, with all due respect, Melinda, you've just praised William and his brother, and yet cast doubts about the "usefulness of Kate". Have you judged William, brother and Kate from what you've seen on the TV, read in the newspapers, or heard on the radio, or have you met them?? Do you think that by going into the Forces that makes members of the Royal Family useful? I have never met any Royal Family, except the Queen and Philip on a ceremonial occasion, but although I have the greatest respect for them I would never have the temerity to pass comment on their personal characters, good or bad, based on the media ranting. You seem to be inferring that Kate is one of the privileged idle rich and therefore is not worthy of William. There are a lot more "idle unrich" out there with no intention of working and every intention of living off the state. We've no idea of the real Kate, her personal qualities, her ideals and yet people presume to judge her. Come on, Melinda, don't be prejudice.

Surprise, surprise - the protest is off.

Royal wedding: Muslim extremists call off protest - mirror.co.uk

The protestors apparently carried a banner calling Prince William a 'modern day Nazi'. I thought it was Harry who enjoyed dressing up as a Nazi. Perhaps they've got their princes mixed up.

Anyway, it's all off because the safety of protestors has to be considered. The crowd might turn nasty. Nothing more deadly than an irate granny who has slept rough outside Westminster Abbey for a week, is armed with a giant holdall and rolled umbrella and is in danger of missing out on her one glimpse of a fairytale princess.

They would have had to have been stupid and suicidal to have been serious about the march at the Royal Wedding. It's been a long time since anyone has been strung up from the lampposts in the streets of London but ................:hapfeet::yahoo:
