horses tail

Can any one tell me how to get rid of this weed in my allotment we r all plaiged with them

 

Horses tail/mares tail. Glyphosate is probably the only chemical that will shift it. Found in sprays like Round-up. Don't try and dig it out, you'll fight a losing battle. It will probably take more than one application though.

Ammonium sulphamate will do a good job. No longer licensed for use in the UK, and only available in compost accelerator here, but as you haven't put your location in I'll assume you are outside the UK :thumb:

There is plenty of info on the web about the fact that this chemical is very straightforward (breaks don't to Sulphate of Ammonia, a nitrogen-rich fertilizer) but there is no patent, so not in anyones' interest to make the application for a licence, plus there was some talk of them having to repeat a test on dogs which the manufacturer wasn't prepared to do.
