I had a variety of old machines in the 60s. The lever you’re talking about to reduce compression is for when you kick start it, making it easier to turn over, there was another lever on some bikes to retard the timing and lessen the chance of kick back. You were lucky not to experience a kick back on a big single cylinder machine Jack! :)

    DOH

It was a TRIUMPH PANTHER 200,
No wonder I got some tremendous kickbacks nearly chucked me over the handlebars :-)

Only 200cc but the bike with its single cylinder was huge compared to the 1960's c15, tiger cub beezers
It weighed a ton and had a 12" headlight

    DOH you live and learn

      :)

Sounds a lovely old machine Jack, would be worth a fortune if you had it now. Same with some of my old bikes, just left them on the farm in a barn when my Dad retired, still you can't keep everything.

Beats me when you get time to do your gardening Chopper. I spend my life trying to minimise the number of times I hit a little white ball around my local golf coursre which is none too tiring.
What's the next projwct likely to be?
