... then get him to a doctor, boom boom! :)

Getting serious though, up until Thursday these Alicante seedlings were looking fine... a strong healthy green colour, but yesterday I noticed that they were starting to look a bit pale. This morning they appear to have yellow-ish patches all over the true leaves... and as you can see in the very bad photo a couple of leaves have even wilted.

I've never had much success with tomato seedlings in the past and usually end up buying in plants from a nursery, but this year I thought I had cracked it. Despite not having a greenhouse these seemed to be quite content in the conservatory up until now.

Question is... have I simply over watered them, or is this a sign of something more dire? And are they likely to survive, or have I got to once again admit defeat and go buy some new plants?

I think the white marks on the leaves are sun scorch - that happens when you water the plant from above and the full sun shines on them. It's probably too hot in your consveratory for them. Have you got a thermometer? Anything over 30 deg C is too much.

Don't water from above if the sun is going to shine on them, sit them in a bowl with 1" water for 5 minutes instead.

My tomato seedlings were getting yellow leaves too after being overdue for potting on or potting out, as we're currently having some very warm humid weather I took the plunge and planted mine out in their pots and grow bags; quite literally over night the leaves have almost all gone back to a lovely healthy green colour.....

I have got fleece at the ready though should we be unlucky enough to get a late frost......

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. Whilst I don't think I want to risk putting them outside yet Bilbo ( we had a light frost here midweek ) I have followed JWK's advice and moved them into the dining room where it is a lot cooler.
        Fingers crossed.

I'm pleased to say that mine have done the same Bilbo. Over the last couple of days I've repotted them into big containers and you wouldn't think they were the same plants... quite astonishing how quickly they've reacted to the new medium. They're really filling out and looking very healthy now.:yess:

Remember these? My first posting here at GC.

Am I the only one whose toms haven't ripened?

This is about half of the tomatoes that developed on the 5 plants I nurtured, and not one has ripened. Grr! I've already got a lot of chutney made so I'm not sure what to do with all these... visit the Whistle Stop Cafe?

I've always been taught that green toms picked to ripen should have the calyxes left on, or better still, be left on complete trusses (preferably tied in a bunch with a ripe banana attached).

You are probably right Scrungee, this was just panic picking. The plants are beginning to look very sorry for themselves and a lot of the fruit were beginning to turn brown. I just grabbed the larger fruits and brought them indoors. I don't expect them to ripen properly, but at least if worst comes to ruddy awful I can use them for something... anyone got any spare jam jars?

Put them in a drawer with a banana, that will help some of them to ripen.
