    Hello Yacobian.

Although you pictures are a little unclear, I actually can't see anything wrong with your little Oak .. in fact, it looks like it has a new branch developing ... :yess:

An Oak is a deciduous tree and it is expected that it would lose it's leaves over the winter. I would just take off the dead leaves and continue as you have been because you have managed to keep it alive so far.

The only other thing I would do is place it outside if that is possible (I do not know your location) to give it plenty of fresh air now that it is in it's growing season.

Please keep up posted on the little fella's progress. :)

thanks for the response victoria, My main concern is that it has 3 main buds on it. The top one grew, but now in the same conditions it grew in, its starting to brown and wilt. Its got a lot of water, and good sunlight. The other two buds look ok.

Is it normal for the first set of leaves to die? i wondered if perhaps it just grew them long enough to photosynthesise and grow a better root system, but ive not got enough experience to know really. I'd hate to just leave it and hope that the other buds are ok, only to have them die as well.

any ideas why the first set of leaves could be wilting?

    thanks
    yaco

Probably best to plant an acorn in the Autumn, unless you can source someone selling Oak saplings (12" or so..).

Hey guys the top set of leaves is now entirely brown and almost gone, the second and third bud are starting to come through but im worried that they'll suffer the same fate if the problem is that i have it in the wrong place or something like that.

this plant was battered around a little before it found its new bonsai pot home, im really unsure if its just trying to make leaves for photosynthesis (to subsequently make a better root system) or just trying to make leaves and then struggling to keep them going once theyre up.

    anyone got any ideas?

Yaco, please don't panic. As I said to you, remove the top leaves and place the plant in a situation of air and light and don't overwater. Again, I say I don't know your location or the location where your little oak is situated (it appears to be outdoors .. but where?) so as I don't know your climate it is difficult to advise further.

Boe, it's best to find a seedling.

Im in bristol, in the southwest. The oak is in full sunlight on top of a little garden table sort of thing, with a tiny amount of wind.

    Thanks again Victoria

I know your sun is not as strong/harsh as mine can be (I know that sounds silly) but I wonder if perhaps it would be better in part shade or filtered sunlight until it is well established. Mine have to be in such a location or they would fry ....
