The tree must be about 40 years+ old and we have lived here 12 years and the last two years the pigeons have been stripping the May Tree(Hawthorn)(Pauls Scarlet) of its flowers and leaves..

    Is this normal?

 Well Pigeons will strip anything if it tastes good but I have never known them strip a Paul's Scarlet of it's flowers, but that doesn't mean they don't .. I find the sparrows do allot of damage.. Trouble is it is hard to scare the pigeons.. The only thing I can think of is to net the tree when in flower so they can't get at them... :WINK1: Or buy a Crow scarer.. :heehee:

Thanks, it looks like I will have to stop running out to the garden waving my arms around like a madman...and let the pigeons get on with it.

Netting would be too difficult, its about 20 ft high.

I once had wood pigeons become obsessed with my young runner bean plants, they wouldn't stop pulling the leaves and some shoots off....I ended up hanging some old cd's from the canes and it worked for me (especially on sunny days), the runner beans grew back strongly...
