We are thinking of buying a Mulberry. It sounds a lovely looking tree. How
useful and what are the characteristics of the fruit? What is the
    height/width?

We live in the High Peak of Derbyshire, about 600 ft.

Hi I have a mulberry tree only 3 years old .

The fruit looks like a rasberry Iam still waiting for my first one !!, slow growing tree , you cant prune in the spring or summer as it bleeds badly , difficult to buy as a standard, but bush trees are quite easy to get hold off , I have been informed likes to grow on deep loam that water retentive but doesnt water log in winter also out of direct wind !!! I Think if you planted in full sun in a ptotected spot it might put up with being so high up.
They have some in a gardens up by me over 100 years old plus a old church by my brother has two and they use huge sheets to collect the fruit catches them as they fall

Hope this helps should be grown more than it is

They are "small" trees - I would guess 20' to 30' tall when mature - but I have also seen the Espalier-trained. They don't grow very fast - it will probably be 10 years, maybe a bit less, before you get a crop.
