The hardest thing!

I've just done one of the hardest things in my life. Said goodbye to my daughter, who emigrates to Vancouver, Canada tomorrow.

We've always been a close family and even though my three children are in their 30's it's still damned hard to let go.

Yes, I'll get over it, but I have to go through it all again in September when my son emigrates to Columbus, Ohio, USA. He's off to marry his American girlfriend.

I'll still have my eldest daughter and grandchildren close by, but it doesn't take away the pain that I'm feeling right now.

Yes, I've got all the technology, but I have a fear of flying which makes life difficult. My husband suggested I work my passage on a freighter, but it's difficult to get to these places by ship!

I've always enjoyed taking the pretty route, I still do that on the back lanes of this little island of ours.

I love Norway, have been there twice, not so sure about getting there via Durban though!

 

Sheal, flying is the safest form of transport, and I HATE it. BUT, my fear will not stop me from going to places I want to visit. I am going to play dirty here and ask, do you hate flying MORE than you love your kids?:D

I know how you feel .I was devastated when my middle son told us they were all off to Peoria USA 4 years ago...However I did visit twice, and they came back home to the UK 6months ago..

Oh Sheal, It is hard to deal with, my eldest moved out when she was 16 & now I hardly see her. Only see the others at weekends now too.

That's a wicked question and I can't and won't answer it.

It's not just a fear of flying, but claustrophobia aswell. Tunnels have a bad effect on me too, panic attacks.

A couple of months ago I thought about taking a course that Virgin airlines are running. I then spoke to my doctor about it. He suggested taking the course first and if I could manage a certain amount of time in a plane (not in the air) he would prescribe me vallium to get through any flight I wanted to take. I didn't even get as far as booking the course.

Many years ago I walked through a proto-type of concorde at Duxford.
I walked straight through without stopping, just couldn't bear the thought of being shut in.

Ironically, I didn't have these fears until after my children were born.

 

Oh Ziggy, I was doing okay 'til I watched that. Now you've started me off again!

 

I can empathise there Sheal too, the concord I went in was at Yeovilton (although i've been to Duxford too) It was very cramped.

I have another story about tunnels and my little boy, but that will have to wait, off to see the bats now.

Sheal, I didn`t post that question to upset you, only to focus you. You CAN do a flight. It will NOT hurt you. Go for it girl. Trust me, I`m a horticulturist.:D:D:D
