I dont think Ive spent more than £20 on the garden this year, and that includes a reasonable pair of secateurs. Ill probably remember something else later, but for now- I think its just £20.

Mrs Pal has spent £15 on bedding plants for her patio pots, I have spent £10 on tools (long handled foot dibber)....Veg seeds £12, a couple of spray weed controls and £70 on a hose and reel and £10 on potting compost(Peat free!)
    So well over a £100.....so far:D

£25ish on compost, £12 on 3 4-plant grow bags, £10 on veg seeds, £20ish on an array of ornamental plants (many at bargain prices), £5 on some seed trays, £15ish on fertilizers, slug pellets etc., £5 on seed potatoes & onions and £3 on some potato bags. Probably another £10+ on bits and bobs..

So that's just over £100, not bad as I don't expect to spend much more for the rest of the year, perhaps just plant food and bits and bobs...

I've been lucky this year in that my mother and friends have given me quite a few plants that they have divided, so i've only bought a couple of things : Camelia for £2.99 and a red climbing Rose also for £2.99 both from Sainsburys. I have also bought some seeds, but probably only comes to around £12.00 in all. Not spending anymore this year, well, not yet anyway:heehee:!

Very little, a few pounds, I propagate and use my own potting compost.

Oh £15 on new allotment rent.

Between £30 and Pi x the square root of reality I guess.

I grow nearly all my stuff from seed & flog the surplus so not to bad.

Feel a bit embarassed when I get charged 17p for seeds at the checkout, but if thats all I need then fair enough.

Over the last week I've spent £52 on Wickes compost and will buy some more next week. I just can't generate enough home made compost for my soil. I'm about to buy some new tropical plants for my new patio area and have been asking for Garden vouchers for christmas and birthdays which should cover that. I probably have spent about £40 on seeds and fertilizer as well.

I won't tell you how much I've spent on the hard landscaping of my new patio and the water feature - way too much! Then Mrs JWK wants us to buy some new patio furniture soon. No wonder I can't afford to retire :cry3:

It does seem to add up without you noticing. £12 on seeds earlier this year, then £35 for Sauron the lion (found at the secret garden centre); then £5 on lobelia at a craft fair and £25 for a bootfull of plants at prices like £2-£3 each just recently. I'm planning on visiting the Kent Flower Show at the end of this month and I've got about £50-ish saved up.

Why the high costs? I have always found gardening rather cheap. almost money free. Is it because we buy plants rather than grow from seed or dont propagate? has gardening become impatient?

Gardening is a very patient hobby, but it seems spending money on immediate plants is taking over.
