Hi, Spruce, I have had two Astibles [pink and white] in my bog garden for 16 years and they're still going strong. The bog garden is partially shady so they're happy in light shade and since they're still there after 16 years they like it damp:thumbsup:
I've never bought any Astilbes since then so I'm not up to date on the new varieties.
Just don't put them next to your collection of Day Lilies:heehee::yahoo:

:yay:I think they are smashing plants Spruce.. I have 3 in my bog gardens.. I have Bressingham Beauty (pink), Fanal (red) & Ardensii alba (white) & now I am really tempted to get a Chinensis pumila (pink/purple) one as the flowers are even more attractive.. They just keep going & going..! :D

Check out a few friends with Astilbies and ID the ones you like.
Then ask them to chop off a bit. They keep increasing so there should be no problem being given a bit.

There must be a dozen or more people nearby with bits of mine. I chop chunks off each year and give them away. No point in buying it - Sorry Garden Centres - I know it's about £6 a pot.

          Hi Spruce

Not much help from me on this but if you ever go up to the Lake District there is the National Collection of astilbes at the Lakeland Horticultural Society gardens at Holehird. The Astilbes bloom from June till August.

The gardens are worth a visit at any time of year :dbgrtmb: and are free entry (donations always welcome in the donation box)

Hi Most of my friends have my plants growing in the gardens , only thing I do have is snow drops from West Wales and the field that had been growing in for over 50 years was just about to be ploughed up !!!!!

The more I have looked the more that look realy good I think they would look good under my tree ferns part shady and damp ticks all the boxes I want the tall ones though so I will have to check out the heights
Pip looks a new one but I like the purple ones the best and the white oooohhh here we go again just to much choice
          Thanks Shiney for the info

We should have plant of the week on here that would be fun and informative , give out the do's and dont want because off stuff I am sure we all know best LOL

          UPDATE

Have bought two varieties 2 of each , Erika (pinky red) realy tall 30 inches middle back of border and for the front called Visions 18 inches high quote "Vibrant plumes of floweres emerge from rich-red buds"

so well happy they had of 10 diifrent ones , so I will see how these get on and I will probably get more as it is a damp spot and half shade " right plant for the right place"

          thanks everyone for helping out
