Beautiful tree, but I have no idea what?

Took these pictures a week or two back. When I drove past it last summer it was covered in big flowers (pink/purple if I remember correctly, but I may be wrong there).

Dont know what it is, but it has a bit of the look of Rhododendron.

it can get much larger than that depending on type

 

Ireland. That tree is in the grouds of an old country house, in Co Roscommon, a fairly wet area.

 

Ah ha, I thought you might be out west.

Not common large Rhodos in my area, but they like damper places.

Many can get tree like, but we tend to only get large shrubs around here.
