Mystery Caterpillar

    So - I have moved on from mystery plants to mystery caterpillars.

    Saw this beastie on one of my Japanese maples this afternoon. Does anyone know what it is? Only about 2 cms long and seems to be alone.

    Not the easiest thing to photo as the wind kept blowing the leaves around, there are two green tufts on its back as well as those orange/red markings.

      Hi Marley I think that is a Vapourer Moth Larvae in its stage one(Black Bristles),stage two is when their bristles turn a lighter colour:)
