autumn colour ideas please

    Can't remember the name of that Peony** but I'm pretty sure I had one and it did way more foliage than flowers. Nice thought the foliage was that's not really the point with Tree Peonies is it? I mean ... they are supposed to Show Off !!

    ** "Ludlowii" springs to mind, or maybe something else beginning with "L", but it was 35 years and 5 gardens ago so you'll have to forgive the flaky memory!

    just found it - under the buddleia in the back. it was another one I thought was dead but planted it anyway and seems to be settling - ish. it is green again anyway so fingers crossed

    Re bulbs: there are autumn flowering bulbs, e.g. Colchicum (some species v similar to crocus) and there are lots of autumn croci

    oh, clematis cirrhosa blooms in winter and is also evergreen.

    What about the good old underrated Nasturtium?

    It flowers profusely right up until it gets wiped out by a prolonged hard frost. I've had it going right up until late december in the past. Its an annual (in the UK climate, perennial in its native warmer climate), but it self seeds plenty. The seedlings are easy to spot and unmistakable, so its no bother keeping it under control.

    My Nasturtium is finally flowering! well Nasturtiums, as I have them all over my garden. I think they look fantastic! Never grown them before this year, exciting! :yess:
