+ Spanish agricultural workers (unemployment in Spain is >20%, the highest in the EU), + everybody who contributes to the EU budget (especially us) as affected countries are demanding compensation from the EU + us again as we'll be paying higher prices + us again as the UK may have to lend money cheaply to Spain if it affects their economy to the extent they need a bail out + will restaurants/sandwich bars/etc. be affected as their veg is of unknown provenance?, etc., etc. And almost forgot the 1,000 plus (and growing) people who've contracted a deadly illness.

Maybe those 'rich' spanish bankers behind Santander that somehow managed to buy out our high street banks (Abbey National, Alliance & Leics) a couple of year ago can help?

Sorry, I haven't got all the info, but my husband has heard today that cucumbers aren't the cause of this outbreak.

That goes without saying, as e.coli comes from animal poo.

Certainly looks that way Sheal, the Germans are standing their ground by saying they did find A strain of e coli on the cumbers.

I would have thought that it would have spread much further if they were the source, and not just be clustered around Hamborg.

I think the source will be much closer than Spain. Something nasty in a distribution centre.

Notice they are not saying much about whether the cumbers were processed in any way?

Were they whole, plastic wrapped, part of a ready meal salad?

Blimey, cross posting, looks like we're thinking the same things though.

I think the best thing we can all do is give up eating, I know that's not generally a good idea to maintain good health :WINK1: but it looks like everything we eat is going to 'fell' us anyway. :heehee:

You have me worried now as I used Chicken Manure Pellets, in my Tomato compost to enrich the Nitrogen, and have been watering them with CMP feed

As I only have flowers not fruit yet do you think they will be safe, if I stop and use tomorite now?

I worked on a mushroom farm, in contact with horse poo every day and kept chickens for years Jack. Never got sick from it.

They were saying on the radio today, that beansprouts are probably the cause of the e-coli outbreak.
