I lost my best 'gold' watch - couldn't think where it might be. After about three months of searching everywhere I was wiping round the rubber seal in the washing machine and there it was - still ticking away after at least 100 washes. Sadly the 'gold' was nearly washed away and the links in the bracelet were full of limescale. I took it to the watch repairer but it could not be restored - shame when it was still keeping good time!

I once called for one of my mates to come out for a pint. He was in a mood because he'd accidentally left his last £20 note in a trouser pocket and thus washed it. Apart from being soggy, it was still intact, so he decided to iron it dry. It was going so well until he got briefly distracted, left the iron on it too long, and it sort of went up in smoke.

Yes Sorry Sheal, not trying to do a mod thing there but I can't let them stay there. Which is a real pity because I love things like that.

I accidentally posted a pic of the old ten bob note without thinking about it but one of the previous mods put "specimin" over it for me.

I just don't have the software to do it, sorry.

We had a guy up here recently "a sandwich short of a picnic" over 60
Printed the pics off a computer of £20 notes and went into town to spend all three of them (ordinary paper single side)
He is now residing at Her Majesty's Pleasure for 12 weeks

There must be more to it than the story shows, he is definately "not the full shilling" and people know that
I mean the shop should have just pointed to him the error of his ways, not get the police involved surely

Maybe it is a way of giving him care that can not be given otherways for a couple of months

I was working in a small leather goods shop just outside Embankment station in London many years ago, meaning in the heart of a constant flow of people and "tribes" of tourists for good part of the hours.
It would therefore regularly happen that we were handled some fake notes.
I didn't know how to recognize them at first, but after one year I became an expert. Nowadays if I don't like the feel of the note I am given or it is too worn I ask for a different one.

PS What a nice expression "a sandwich short of a picnic".

I recall one occasion when Mr. F'smum decided, as he hadn't worn it for a while, that his DJ needed a trip to the cleaners. As he emptied the pockets he found 'the wallet' in the jacket containing £60 in £20 notes which he always carries in case (after a night at a 'do') he needs taxi money. Delighted by his unexepected find, he decided to treat us to a meal, everything went well and, when it came to paying the bill he duly he handed over the notes. The waiter disappeared only to re-appear seconds later accompanied by the Manager who asked if Mr. F'smum had ' ... any other method of payment...? The Elgar notes, he explained, had ceased to be legal tender for several months! Fortunately, the bank had no such problem in changing them :phew:

Pretty much definately with shark or smoothounds val, they are considered purely sportfish by anglers.

They are handled carefully so as not to damage the cartilage.

Right now, over on Anglers Net Forums, a few of us are hopping mad about the £25,000 bounty being offered for the death of the shark that hit a boat off Cornwall last week.

Its highly unlikely they will, its an open ocean shark, he'd probably just lost his bearings after chasing something & will be long gone now.
