If they cherries present one or more opening like cuts on them what does it mean? Could it be because of the rain?

Tomatoes split because of irregular watering. So it may be possible.

I've usually found with my Tom's that it's due to not gotten enough water after the fruit has formed, not sure if it's the same for cherries! Though I feel sure it is. With my fruit trees when I planted them years ago I purchased some length of plastic pipe, the type that they use to put cables inside underground, then added an end piece and drilled some small holes down it's length and dug it down into the ground with about a foot above. Then covered the top with fine wired mesh to stop leaves from clogging it. Now I just water my trees directly down the pipe after I've removed the mesh. My neighbours are always astounded at the amount of crop and size I get compared to them. But I learnt this trick from my father. The weather has been rather hot this year and we haven't had as much rain in the uk as normal. Maybe that's the reason for it? Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Kind regards,
    Oraya

We had the same problem with our plums over at our allotment last year when we had the very hot spell. We looked at them one week to see if they were ripe and decided that they needed just a bit longer, then we had a heavy lot of rain which we were greatful for but the next week when we went to check and start picking, 99% of the fruit had splits in them so we had to pick the whole lot in one go and rushed them home to start preparing them for the freezer.A good deal of them went bad as we couldn't prepare them fast enough so it could be the same thing with your cherries as we have had quiet a long time of drought conditions.

Would it be possible to take a photo or two to let us know what the splits look like for a more positive identification..Thanks:)

Split fruit is usually caused by sudden watering after a dry period.

The fruit suddenly swells and the skin cant expand quickly enough.
