When I read your posts I give you voices and accents.

I 'know' what Marley, Alice and Woo sound like. They have very strong accents.
Ziggy, Clare and Armandii plus all the regulars have distinctive voices too.

Ive just made myself grin by reading the bun fight on the closed thread in your voices.

Do you have much of an accent?

How can we say what we think we sound like? I have only spoken on the telephone to miraflores and Sussexgardener and to pete once (and obviously my Sis, Kedi-Gato and DAG whom I have met) ... oh, and Dendrobium in Scotland who someone queried recently. Also to Daisees for many hours during my Mod training.

I did 'voice overs' for Rank Xerox training videos. Some people think I sound 'foreign' ie Canadian, others say 'posh' as I speak correctly and don't um and ah (but that's my Toastmasters training) . I am probably quite common sounding ... :love30::heehee::loll:

      :goodpost:

Now thats a good one Melinda:dbgrtmb:

When i'm talking to a client or at College then its usually BBC english.

When i'm on site or down the pub then, i've been told, i've got a bit of a West Country Accent, i've lived here for 20 years now. It hit home down the pub when a "newbie" told me he'd just been trout fishing.

I asked, "Where be that too then ?" The blank look that followed made tumbleweed come crashing thru the pub so I translated it straight away into "Where did you go trout fishing exactly? Which he understood.

I've got you down as sounding like Hazel O'Connor, with a dash of Poly Styrene.

Armandii sounds like Tom Baker :heehee: Clueless like the likely lad who isn't rodney bews.

I've met John, so I can't wind him up:D Dave W, like Private Frazier from Dad's army, with a pinch of Father Jack.

Don't take offence anyone, this is only a bit of fun:WINK1:

I don't think I have a Salford/Manchester accent, and whenever I go out drinking and someone meets me, they always think I'm a student and I've moved here...

I once got asked in Phones4u when I moved to England!

Oh thank you very much, Ziggy, for saying I "sound" like Tom Baker:D:DOH::heehee: I sure don't look like him:rolleyespink:

That's a very good question, Melinda, about how you think people "sound". Translating the written "sound" to the visual/verbal "sound" can lead you into very interesting mental images.!
I've always tried to imagine what people who I don't know, when speaking to them over the phone, look like, and then when I've met them later found I was totally wrong.

I've listened to my voice many times and can't quite "glue" it to how I look in the mirror [not a pretty sight]. I was born in the Northwest and spoke like " Eeee, I katch burz att ennd of strit."
Then I joined the RAF for 22 years and my whole way of speaking got mutated by working and meeting with people of all UK and other accents. I do find I can drop back into the Northwest accent naturally when with old friends. I also find, since my wife was Welsh, that I can drop into the Welsh accent without thinking when straying over the border.

                      Of course Dai. Sadly missed.

I saw her at the "Rock Against Racism" gigs in 1978, along with The Clash & Tom Robinson.

                      South Alien accent :what::love30:
