    Hi all :)

Took this earlier, one of many goldfinches in not only my garden but the area generally. Still trying to get to grips with camera settings and will get the perfect shot one day, until then I am happy with this result.

Great pic, Pip. We have goldfinches too but they are rarely still enough to photograph; they seem to spend all day darting from garden to garden.

A great shot of the Goldfinch Pip.
We have them aplenty here too. They go about in little gangs twittering as they go.

Yes, Alice, they're sociable little things and they seem to be able to sing and fly at the same time :heehee:.

You've posted some really lovely shots recently, Pip.

Very nice Pip they are such colourful birds.
I looked at your exif data - are you using a longish zoom on the Canon ?

      Thanks all :dbgrtmb:

Used a 70-300 at 200 through double glazing. As I said, I am still getting to grips with camera settings and taking shots of birds. A little off focus but still not to bad a shot.

Here's a comparison of the Canon 70-300 and Sigma 50-500. First is the Canon at 300mm, next the Sigma at 500mm. As you see not a lot of difference. Shots taken on a very dull day, through double glazing hence the ISO 1600 and even at that I had to open up the aperture rather wider than for optimum sharpness. Both shots cropped to about the same size.
