Some late additions for your list Mira:

Mobile phone with all the pub’s contact details on your route.
    Mobile phone solar charger.
    Very large thermos of tea.
Crisps – plain not cheese and onion.

Isn't it obvious? It's the extra weight of the flavouring, would slow you down especially on a bike, sheesh :heehee:

You can take both if you have one of these (great for increasing foraging range):

and do a tour of the UK by car + the odd one of these Origami Rides

I also think that cars and cycles should travels on separate lanes (actually streets) . It is dangerous for drivers and cyclers alike to be close (not to mention when it is windy).

        Hello Paula

Do a cycle ride around Holland instead! The cycle is king over there, and there are no hills.

Or you could just do a pootle around Tiarella's neck of the woods, in the Romney Marshes. Few hills and hardly any cars in the wilder bits.

If I wanted to cycle abroad, I would be quite happy with Denmark to start with. I lived there for a little while and I love the place.

Wallet, ipod, anti chaffing chamois cream and the phone numbers of attractive male masseurs along the route.

There's a channel 5 documentary to be had in this here adventure. Perhaps you could twitter your route a day in advance.
