For all those of us that have had the storm today, don't forget to put out some beer traps, the slugs will be ravenous after that dry spell.

Only use the cheaps stuff or husbands will be attracted to it.

Its ok, frogs don't drink, they absorb liquid via WiFi.

Biggest problem in my coldframes this year has been mice eating shoots out, not slugs.

          Touch virtual wood,
          [IMG]
I've not had mice in the frames since I used the expanding foam to fill the gaps. Just problems with ants, they've killed off all the Aubergines, most of the Peppers and now my Pineapple.

Slugs can be removed by hand, and no matter how many you remove more will still come back, proving the inefficiency of lethal control; killing slugs is an unpleasant thing to do and can be avoided. Natural and organic methods of slug control are widely practised and you can find out all about them via a quick Google search. Trap-cropping is also effective. I find slugs very attractive characters and often find them around the plants, and usually take them to the adjacent woodland, or else just create an area of the garden where they are welcome. I can assure the slug population that none of their number will be killed where I live unless by predators, or to put them out of their misery if they're injured - and you are all welcome to send your gardens' slugs on to me :)

I have a weird type of slug in my garden, Apart from the what I would recognise as "normal" 1.5" long 1/2" thick black
These are 2" to 3" long about 3/4" thick and look like small gherkins green and yellow and they only appear on the black plastic pots filled with grow bag material based on concrete I grow lettuce and sweetpeas in

          No idea

I just check the pots and place the slugs? on the bird table

Strangely we have very few slugs in our garden; even after all the rain yesterday, we do however have lots of snails, 2 different varities. We live next to a field so I simply pick them up and chuck them over the fence (as far as possible :D) - I know in all likelyhood they return but it keeps them busy travelling back and to instead of munching on my plants and they're a lot cleaner to pick up compared to slugs :eeew:.

Any precious plants in pots are protected by copper tape around the tops of the pots - works a treat for me :thumb:

You are a very nice lad, Simon. But I fear you may regret this when the postman starts to put small, slimy packages through your door.

Hi Jack - I have a feeling the slugs you are seeing may be the species, Limax flavus - commonly known as "the Yellow Slug." The Yellow Slug

I await those gunky envelopes with glee.
