Todays sink

    The race against the catterpillars has begun, these have hearted up, about 16 more to go yet.

      They look good, Ziggy. Do you soak them in salted water to get the wildlife out?

        Not doing bad Marley, I don't usually grow cabbage, just had some vacant ground to fill in the autumn, glad I did now.:thumbsup:

        Didn't think about salt water Flinty, will give that a go, how long do you think I should do it ?:)

        Hi Ziggy

        They look a decent size so I reckon that half an hour in salty water would flush any little beasties out. You need to slosh them about a bit to begin with to make sure that no air pockets are left for insects to survive in.

        I once grew some beautiful big cauliflowers but when I soaked the heads in salty water, I found they were harbouring dozens of small slugs. A sort of slug creche, in fact. The record was over 40 from one head...

          Thanks Flinty,

          I'm going to take them apart leaf by leaf when it comes to eating, what with next doors fir trees and the bonfire ash from across the road:DOH:

          Just didn't want something eating them from the inside beforehand:thumbsup:

          I don't think i'll try the cabbage growing, don't think i could eat them after seeing what's been in them. :eeew:. But looking good Ziggy!
