Carrots Disappeared

    Planted carrots in box outside, the tops appeared for a few days and now they have gone no carrots. This also happened to friends.

    The first lot I planted were covered by a fleese but they came up about 1/2" and then disappeared. No sign of slugs or snails. Complete mystery.

    That`s Keel slugs for you. They are about 10mm long, live in the soil, only come out at night, devour your crop and all without leaving a slime trail.:dbgrtmb:

    No birds or animals were able to get at first lot. How do you get rid of these slugs. Carrots were planted in compost.

    Use a liquid slug killer. This will kill them in the soil, animals DID get your first lot. Slugs are animals too.:dbgrtmb:

    And you would be amazed where rabbits can get to! The only effective thing I've found against rabbits (apart from a complete physical barrier) is a product called Grazers. Good against deer too. Looks expensive but you use minute amounts of it.
