I've only managed to see the sun actually rise twice at Stonehenge, once at Castlerigg and once at the Rollrights, but haven't been anywhere for a quite a few years now.

P.S. As this is a gardening forum, I thought I'd better mention that if any GC members visit the stones for Summer Solstice - wheelbarrows are banned!

Tried to paint the Rollrights once,

But seeing as they are difficult to count, they're darned near impossible to paint:DOH:

JWK will be furious, he never goes to a festival without his.

Did you visit when the old lady who owned the place charged a tiny entrance fee (from a small hut?) and her hens were running all around the place?

She was normally long gone by sunset, but would be there all night on the Solstice.

A belated Happy Solstice! We quite fancy the idea of joining the festivities at stone henge one day. Not least because it is my daughters birthday. It was her due date and indeed she arrived just as the sun rose on the longest day. She was 4 yesterday and we settled for the museum and a HUGE cake!

In terms of stones my favourites are Avebury.. so beautiful.

            Kate :)
