I have just about managed to get one going from a supermarket piece - Spruce is right, they don't leave much root on. I didn't get a crop from it, though and my efforts from seed haven't come to much although they germinate easily in a propagator. I think they just want to be back home in steamy Thailand.

They will be somewhere in the veg section, often in a little tray of three, plastic wrapped. if you live near an Asda they do a Thai seasoning pack for about 95p which will have a couple in.

I have grown a lot of lemon grass from seed in the polytunnel. I'm leaving it in there as it is pretty hot and steamy, but it is still pretty small and I think it will be a while before I can actually harvest any of it! I tried doing the supermarket thing but got no results as they were far too close cut.

I don't know really but as it doesn't like the cold I'm thinking it will probably go on producing for as long as you can keep it alive:dbgrtmb:.
I got all my herb seed from seed parade www.seedparade.co.uk 95p a pack and a good selection of herb seeds.

Yes, i think so, but the British winter is as torture to it, and I have never successfully overwintered one. You might be a more consistent provider of TLC than me, though.

I think I picked one that had a mm more root than all the rest. Worth a try, if all else fails you can make a delicious Thai curry with it.
