I have 5 honeysuckles. As an experiment I have dead headed one just after flowering as I would do with roses and lilac to see if there is an increase in flowering. There seems to be more or is it my imagination?

      Hello Mike

I have the deciduous honeysuckle 'Graham Thomas' which looks great around midsummer when it's in full flower and then degenerates into a rather sorry-looking heap. So I give it quite a severe chop - a rather extreme form of dead-heading - to tidy it up. It quickly recovers and I usually get a few more flowers later in the season. I don't worry about losing the berries as they are squishy and, to me, rather yucky.

Interesting, never thought of deadheading mine. But I get a nice second bloom every year, so leaving it alone.

Sorry spruce, but I do not know varieties. One has red flowers, the other yellow!
