Single stemmed blue flower!

I found a single stemmed cornflower-blue flower in my garden the other day, it has no leaves, it has one tap-root (no smaller roots coming off at all!) there are about 6 flowers on the stem and each flower has 6 pointed petals. I can't get a clear enough picture! Hope you can give me some suggestions!

How tall is it?
How big are the flowers?
Are the flowers all from one point (as in Agapanthus,) or are they all the way up the stem.
Are the petals thin or fat?
Do they look like a star or more bell shape?
Do they hang down or look up?
Are they a deep blue or a pale blue?
etc etc

What I find very odd is that this has no leaves at all.
Is it an iscolated plant or do you have a few of them.

 

It couldn't be a delphinium that's got withered leaves, could it? Some of mine are looking pretty tatty. Never looked at the roots, but the flowers might answer the description.

 

Possibly a centaurea montana? Just a wild guess though. I have some which look a little worse for wear struggling for light and only have a few petals.

It's the only one, it started growing beside the grass til one of my angels picked it! I noticed it seemed intact so I put it back in the soil and it was fine for a week, but no unaccounted-for leaves!

It is not Platycodon grandiflorus. That has 5 petals.

Looks like a campanula to me - i've a very similar one which seeds itdelf all around my garden sometimes the stems carry more than one flower all single and blue.

 

Yeah the leaves on mine were nice and tall and firm, but they seem to flop as the bud appears from the middle at the bottom. And rest rather untidily across the flower bed.
