Seriously, Melannie, I don't think you've taken in all the things people have been telling you. It would be a seriously bad idea to spray your neighbour's garden with weedkiller! Get the fence sorted so that a) nothing comes through and b) you can't see their garden.

 

I agree......i cant condone doing damage to someone else's property, even if they say that they dont care, it isnt right.

I would seriously look into a higher fence, or using somthing as a barrier, such as the plastic that's been suggested, to using a bamboo blind, take off all the other bits and pieces and cut it to fit.........anything other then what you are going to do, or have already done

There was someone on this forum a few years back that came on asking how they could buy some nettles. That was probably a wind up too.

But just to give the benefit of the doubt, and to show I'm still following this thread with great amusement, I'll chip in again.

There is a legal aspect to consider, and not the obvious one about the premeditated criminal damage.

Nobody has asked if the land is anywhere near a watercourse before suggesting glyphosate. It is illegal to use glyphosate near a watercourse. It is illegal to put it down the drains. It kills some aquatic life.

There is also the small matter of drift. The typical domestic spray bottles are easy to control, but the big back pack sprayers are a bit different. If that vapour catches the breeze and travels to other neighbours' gardens, then expect to look at the bedroom window one night to see what all the noise is about, and you see the whole neighbourhood with pitch forks and flaming torches coming to your door.

And when Mr Plod decides to stop randomly bugging me for no reason and they go to visit you, try explaining why you have enough glyphosate to blitz the neighbourhood when your garden is ok and well stocked. I challenge you to explain to plod, "I used it to spot treat a few dandelions".

Let us know when the great even is happening please, I'd love to come and watch... safely from my locked car a hundred yards away so the mob don't get me in the cross fire.

Get a higher larch lap fence, plant climbers against it, and you will see your neighbours no more and be blissfully unaware of the Jungle, breeding butterfly's and bees to polintate your plants for you

The cost of the fence, would be a lot cheaper than a court appearance, and have a much better outcome on your pocket and mental anguish

friend, I have already spent a lot of time, effort and money planting a 30 long row of leylandii trees at the bottom of the garden to try and keep privacy from all the idiots that live here, and now you are all suggesting I spend even more time and money either adjust a side fence or planting more stuff ???

It is only about 4ft the fence that seperates us and the neighbours from hell, so we cant help but see thier 4-5ft grass everyday of our lifes (apart from once a year when they open thier back door and cut it (not a joke, true).

I have thought about putting clear polythene pinned onto the fence to stop any debris getting through when they do cut the grass, but its hideous looking, I already have the very bottom of the fence pinned with the polythene, yes it works but it looks horrible and would look even more horrible if it was over the whole fence even if it is done cut neat and tidy, because the clearness in a short time becomes not so clear, so it does not look good, plus the fact that I would have to rip it off once a year to paint the fence to protect it too, so I am at my wits end with this.

As I said earlier, I could report the people again to the council but that obviously never had much effect as after that things just went back to being as bad as they have always been, plus, things are bad enough, I dont want to be creating any further bust ups between us and them with involving the council.

I honestly do not think the person could care less if we kill a portion of thier grass down thier side of the fence as they would look at it from the point of view that its less to cut in the once a year event that they do cut the grass.:wallbang:

 

Can we see pictures of this fence please? It might make it easier for people to make better suggestions.
