I'm not sure I lay all that much faith in the original forecaster's prophecy, especially as I haven't seen an accurate short range forecast, never mind a long range one, for a long time.
Also he makes a play on the Icelandic volcano eruptions affecting the UK weather relatively long term, whereas surely, according to the met charts the dust will have been swept eastwards, not hovering over the UK. If he was making the Icelandic volcanoes an element of his forecast surely he should have included all the global volcanoes and their eruptions, because of their effect on the global weather and therefore the UK weather?

It doesn't make sense to not think the Winters in the UK are going to be bad and consequently make whatever precautions you can to protect yourself and the garden from the effects. Having said that despite what I thought to be adequate precautions to protect plants in the garden I lost some treasured and long lived plants during the last Winter. Has anyone got any spare pine cones and strands of seaweed??

Dai, shopping early for Christmas, what's that. We haven't had Christmas in my house for five years! I jumped off the commercial bandwagon, nobody rips me off anymore. :)

Our television went the same way new years eve when the licence expired. Life has returned to my household!
