    Hello everyone
This spring I put in three bamboos....the black cane variety. They have seemd OK. Recently one of them has shot up 4 new bare canes which are already more then half the height of the established canes. These new ones have no leaves on at present. I notice my neighbour, who has a row of the same bamboo long established, has some of these too and his are way taller than the plant from which they are growing. Are these brilliant new healthy canes showing that the plant is happy, or are they going to turn into flowers which I gather from Google means that the plant is doomed.
    Thank you for advice!

    No, they're fine. Normal.

They'll grow leaves, not flowers, in a little while.

Hi Welcome to the forum and your 1st post :yess::yess::yess:

Yours are growing as they should, once they reach the height they will produce side branches , so as you said "new healthy canes" .
Keep well watered throught the summer I only feed mine in the spring as I fed late summer once and the new growth was covered in green fly the following spring , so a good mulch with horse muck and blood fish and bone early in the year I have found does the trick as the plant gets established you will have bigger and better canes after a couple of years, just like next door after two seasons you can thin out a bit just take out the old ones at the base plus now you will have a liftime of free canes
