Lyn, I was in the same position as you two years ago with my lovely labrador Chloe. I said to my son she hadn't got long her legs kept giving way under her and she slept most of the day away but then one day she looked at me in a way as if to say "it is time, I have had enough" and then I knew and took her down to the vets. Poor old girl. I said I would never have another one and yet 10 days ago I took on another puppy labrador Amber and she is so lovely all those loving feelings you have at the moment for your old dog all come flooding back and you are grateful to have another dog to cuddle and reminisce.

I am so so sorry to hear this, Lyn.....its so hard when the end is near, and to know what to do.

My dog Kobe is coming to the end, he's 11 and thats old for a Saint Bernard, and i know we'll be devastated here.

Thoughts, prayers and huggs for you and Molly.

I'm very sad for you, Lyn. My lovely cat William has mouth cancer, which was discovered when he had to have some rotten teeth removed. We were told he would be dead in months, but he's still with us nearly two years on! For the moment, he's enjoying life and is having a great time bossing us all around and being thoroughly spoilt. We've even abandoned the idea of holidays for a bit so that we don't have to leave him, which he hates. However, I know he can't go on forever and I'm dreading the awful day. Like you, I'm not sure if I want another pet. I just get too attached to them.

    Best wishes

Why are animals put to sleep bcause they are poorly, when if they were human they have to suffer?

      Lyn,

I am so, so very sorry that you are having such a horrible, sad time. :cry3:For many, many years, l used to show dogs, and when they became old and ill, one of my criteria was, as long as they were eating and still enjoying their food, providing they were not in pain, l would keep them going, for as long as possible. Like you, l always hoped that they would go to sleep one night, and not wake up. Unfortunately, in all my 40 odd years of owning dogs, it only happened once. :cry3:
I always knew though when the time had come..... the light seemed to go out of their eyes..... and they would look at me as if to say, "please help me". I am crying now, thinking about it. It never DID get any easier to bear.
You WILL know what to do Lyn. You will do as you always have done..... the best thing for Molly. Thinking of you both.

      Josie xx

As many of us know only too well how heartbreaking a time this is for you but you will do whats right in the end so try not to worry.I lost count of the days we prayed our precious Duggleby would just drift off to sleep but it was'nt to be and had to get our vet to come to us.
Sending you and Molly massive hugs...look after each other...

I'm really sorry to hear about Molly - it's always terribly hard when our old friends reach the end of their lives. I'm sure you will know when the time is right to let her go.

Sending best wishes for you and Molly too...
