I don't think my Molly has long left

It will be 2 years in november since our Duggleby died.Theres still not a day goes by we don't speak of him.Me and Mr Lolimac don't have any children so to us he really was our furry 'son'.It's so sad to hear others stories of our furry ones getting on in years but what wonderful memories we are left with.

Hi Lyn, glad to hear Molly is doing well all things considered. Yeah, they tend to sleep most of the time as they age don't they - just like us really. She still wants her walks albeit little ones & is eating so she must be feeling a lot better than before. Probably the hot weather hit her hard too. Give her a hug from me, and then you can have one too Take care Lyn.

 

In the last 3years Beth didn't cope being left by herself for the day whilst we worked, so we had started taking her to my Nan's house before work. She used to spend all day asleep curled up by my Nan's feet, but she didn't get distressed any more, she just needed the company. It's good Molly is fine by herself, I really don't know what we'd have done without my Nan being able to take Beth in the daytime.

This thread is a strange sort of comfort, it's all so sad, but we all understand and it's nice to know we're not alone in this. Molly has a lot of love from us all!
I could never be a vet or veterinary nurse, I think I'd spend all my time in bits!

 

Fudge was just like that Euphrasie as he got older, even more so in the last few weeks, just don't think he liked being on his own either, he'd lie by my feet wherever I was in the house or garden, luckily I don't work and can see it would have been very upsetting if you'd have had to leave Beth alone.
I said exactly the same thing to my husband I could never be a vet,great when treatment works but heartbreaking when beloved pets have to be put to sleep, our vet's lovely and was in tears the day we took Fudge, he was very optimistic that the treatment he was on would help him live longer, but it wasn't to be, luckily Fudge loved going to the vet, he was always made a fuss of and given treats, vet said he was the most gentle chocolate lab he had, never snatched biscuits or growled no matter what he had to have done.
Sorry Borrowers I got in a bit of a tangle there, Penny was my first dog a golden retriever lost her 12 years ago, she was my moped to get to work on, hubby took me all the way to Scarborough, told me he'd bought me a moped for work, I was a nervous wreck never ridden a moped in my life, thought I had to ride it home, when we got there he said no way was I having a moped I couldn't see further than the end of my nose, he'd bought me a gorgeous golden retriever puppy instead, what a relief, lots of happy memories of her too, hubby's terrible for dropping underwear on the floor and she used to take it round to the neighbours house as a present(we had a gap in the fence as she had a dog and they played together) pretty embarassing when the neighbour brought it back. Fudge was our last dog a chocolate lab, yes we have some wonderful memories of him too from the day we brought him home as a tiny puppy who I swore wouldn't sleep in our room, lasted 3 hours he cried so much I couldn't bear it, all he wanted was to be in his bed next to ours and he slept all night, was a handful at first, he'd been the 'pack' leader so he used to round the kids up nipping their ankles, he soon settled down though and was such a gentle boy.

Lovely story about the underwear, Simbad. I thought my Mum's cat was bad enough. He's into breaking and entering. His speciality is nicking rubber gloves and j-cloths which people have left on windowsills near open kitchen windows.

 

That made me laugh Clare , my mother in law used to have a siamese cat that had a secret hiding place in a tear in the base of her bed, if anything went missing thats where it'd be, don't they have some funny habits.

What great news Lyn,so glad Molly is doing ok..It makes all the difference when you have a good vet...our vet is wonderful...I was just wondering how you were both doing...now you've put my mind at rest...Thanks for keeping us posted...Keep up the good work..

Lyn, we had 2 cats put down, 1 a month either side of last Christmas, it was very hard to make the decisions, but the animals` quality of life had to be paramount. I`m sorry, but I think the vet is just playing on your emotions, You need to let go, it is not fair to keep the dog alive just to stop you from being upset. All you are doing is lining the vets` pockets.:(

 

If I had a remote feeling Molly was ready to be "put down" she would have been to vets weeks ago ,our Vet would have advised the right thing to do.
She is not being kept alive for my feelings.
She is a living thing and I feel while she is still enjoying a good standard of life and in no pain she as the right to continue.
Yes it is hard work trying to keep her as healthy as possible but I am not ready to just give up on her because she is old and needs more attention.
The heart tablets are working well.
When she gets tired instead of a full collapse she will just rest now untill she feels her energy is back.
I will not have her put to sleep just because she is a problem and needs more care .
I will do everything I can to prolong her life as long as she is not in any discomfort.
I'm sorry if you don't agree with that but I feel a pet is for life not until you get fed up of looking after them or they become a problem through old age or illness.

Huggs to you Lyn....we had to put Kobe down yesturday, he was beyond the pint of helping, and for us, it was the right thing to do.

And when the time comes for Molly, you'll know.
